Is it shared? So, if you find a kickass pally helm on your sorc for example, and you want to give it to your pally, can you do that? And how?
Really sorry, but this is meant to be in D2 forums, please anyone move it.
Just to answer your question, there are a couple of ways you can do this:
1) Create a game, leave it open for several minutes to "perm" the game. Make sure it has a password you can remember! Switch toons and share the loot.
2) Buy another account/second game copy. Create a pasword protected game with a "mule" account. Have it sit in a game and then you can simply drop loot there as needed.

As stated above,
you can transfer gear but it is not as easy as newer games (D3). You have to make a game and leave it open for at least 5 minutes. Then I recommend leaving the game and coming back to test that it did not expire. this game also must have a password. Then toss the item you want to xfer on the ground and leave. Come back with the character you want to hold or use the item and and pick up the item. It is transfered to the other character.
This is easier with 2 computers or a buddy that can hold the game.
There are dangers to this process and you are subject to losing items with disconnnects and bnet hosing you. Care should be taken with very useful or valuable items. Have a friend hold the item while you switch characters can help eliminate some of the risk. However you must be able to trust the friend.
Always use caution.
shortly u should "mule" it. u can mule:
1. self muling
a) create game, wait for permanent and change chars
b) with 2 comps or 2 copys and 2 profiles (ws xp)
2. multiplayer
a) ask friend and create game with password
b) "wild" muling - use some "mule" game or ever game u want
some ways have special risks. so think it over or/and consult some guides:

If you trust someone in the game, a friend who you've played with enough to trust, you can always have someone help you.
but yeah, personally, when I didn't have a good trusted buddy online, I always just made a game with password, waited over 5 minutes, and then did the transfer.
Be careful if you have a somewhat unreliable internet connection. Or if you use wireless internet. Can be scary if you're internet goes out when you go to make the switch. But as long as you perm the game right, a game should be open for at least 30 minutes once it is permed.
If youre EUSCL, just pm me and I can help you mule.
I use 2 instances of d2 to mule myself.

This is one area where Single Player has a huge advantage over battle.net play. There are two utilities which can be downloaded from the Single Player Forum here, ATMA and GoMule. Each allows you to drag and drop items from character to character, or to stashes both effectively unlimited in their capacity and volume. They also make trading extremely easy, as you can attach items to an e-mail and send them that way.
