Hi,
I tried to search for something similar to this, and it probably has a name that I could search for if I knew it but as it stands, if i try searching I just end up reading auradin guides.
I was wondering how well an aura-stacked character (Probably Barb or Paladin) could do and how aura-stacked they could get by having equipment giving auras and using their own auras/war cries.
So, for example (and I'm sure this will have been tried a million times over, but as I said, I couldn't find what I was looking for)
Char - Barbarian/Paladin?
Shield - Exile - lvl 13-16 defiance
Armor - Dragon - lvl 14 Holy Fire
1H - 6os Weap - Last Wish - Might
Switch - CTA
Merc - Holy Freeze?
Armor - Bramble - Lvl 15-21 Thorns
1H - Shield - Phoenix - lvl 10-15 Redemption(Heal)
1H - 4os weap - Beast - lvl 9 Fanaticism
Helm - Dream
Adding to those either a barbarians warcries, passives and Frenzy or a Paladin stacking another aura high, maxing holy shield etc.
Would this sort of build be viable? Would it be viable with some similar equipment and skills? Or am I missing something that would make this ridiculously pointless to try?
Mainly considering this for PvM
Thanks in advance
edit: Also, apologies if this is in the wrong section as it didn't seem right putting it in the pala section as I was also considering barbs too
IIRC, Beast is ax/scepter only, no merc can equip them. Only act 2 mercs have default auras, and they cannot use shields, only polearms/spears. The most successful "item aura" character is probably the "Dream sorc", which equips two Dream runewords (helm/shield) and maxes lightning mastery, while getting zeal or vengeance from a weapon and conviction+holy freeze from merc.
Bottom line is that elemental auras aren't very good without either masteries (sorcs) or synergies (paladins), while most the items which grant damage auras are lacking, either in damage (pride) or attack speed (Last Wish). This is why you'll see so many more might mercs with Reaper's Toll (reducing monster damage resist helps a LOT) instead of Pride. It's about the way damage is calculated. Aura %ED is just added to skill %ED and str/dex bonuses, which are usually pretty high already.
awww :(
Yeah, in my excitement I forgot about the polearms for act2 mercs, hmmm, act3 can do sword+shield but then they lose their own aura vs act2 mercs and don't actually hit monsters so I expect will die fairly regularly. :/
Ah well.. was a nice idea.. shame it went to poopTHanks for the reply helvete
I had a similar question: Someone said this:
Is this true? If it is then can you do this:1. Auras from items stack. Dream Helm(lvl 15 aura) + Dream Shield(lvl 15 aura) = lvl 30 aura
PS. Afaik, dream is the only item/runeword with an aura, that can be made in 2 different kinds of socketables. (Therefor stacking is possible with dream rw's)
There is a RW called 'Dragon' which can be used in body armour/shields. Gives lvl 14 Holy Fire Aura. And there is another RW called hand of justice used in 4 socket weapons with lvl 16 fire aura. If you use a Barb to dual wield two of those...
Imagine if all four could be combined like you said. lvl 60 holy aura! and give the merc infinity for lvl 12 conviction. Can it be done?
It can be done, sort of....
The HF aura stacks and the HS stacks, so you get level 30 of each, not level 60.
Oh yes, got mixed up with the dream discussion.
I believe that only auras of the same level stack though. At least I've heard that before. It might be fun to put on a ww Barb though, if they did stack.
Different level auras stack, but ofc you can't equip two weapon and a shield :P So the highest you could get on a barb is level 46, which adds a whopping 600 damage to your attacks... Synergysed level 44 HF on a pali is a little better, giving you ~3250 fire damage.
Given enough damage from different sources most combinations of these will be reasonably effective, just depends what you want to do.
Just note worthy to mention, that just because you can reach a higher level of holy fire does not make it more effective. Using dual dreams will almost always end you with a higher damage output than the 3 Dragon/HOJ pieces put together. Combine that with the fact that using conviction you are more likely to break the lightning immunes than you are fire immunes, the number of fire immunes is much larger than the number of lightning immunes, and using the dream setup you can use cresent moon which provides a decent amount of -elr with static field on top of it.
