Add me to the list of people that found TL1 underwhelming. I quit playing after 40 minutes or so. Way too much loot to sift through, and meh gameplay. (Felt the same way about PoE, for what it's worth.) Unless TL2 does something dramatically different along those lines (i.e., more involved combat, interesting interaction between gear and builds), I don't think I'll be taking a look at it.
Just cancelled my pre-order. I played the beta but found it to be exactly the same as TL1, just more of it. Borderlands 2 looks high quality but I don't play fps anymore. I'm happy with D3 for now.
I'm going to play the demo first. TL1 was a nice waste of time and due to the drought of ARPGs, it was better than nothing, but it got dull quick and the skill trees were pretty terrible. Of course they've done a lot more work this time, so I remain hopeful. Also depends on how good the combat is. D3's is pretty damn nice so it's got a lot to overcome, and frankly, I doubt it will be anywhere near as good. TL1's combat was very muddy with just giant blobs of uninteresting monsters coming at you and very little actual dependance on using skills intelligently or playing defensively in any way.
Then again, it could blow me away. It's definitely a more ambitious game than TL1 ever was. But again, ugh, TL1's combat was just so bad.
Ew.Just cancelled my pre-order. I played the beta but found it to be exactly the same as TL1, just more of it.
I pre-ordered TL2 the week before D3 was out, getting a free copy of TL1. I needed a game to occupy me for a few days, but I only played it for around an hour. I'm still having a lot of fun with D3, so I'll play TL2 for a bit, but I'd be surprised if it steals the spotlight. I expect that it'll be something that I add to the game rotation: D3-Skyrim-Rage-DeusEx-RandomFromSteamLibrary-D3-....
I've been thinking about going back to Terraria to finish crafting some of the high end items. I built a pretty wicked base and killed all the bosses at least once, but I don't have all of the items. I might fetch my saves off my linux partition and grind bosses until I can make a Hamdrax.
I'll be buying both TL2 and Borderlands 2 , I think Borderlands will be taking up a bit more of my time , loved the first game , so Paragon levels may have to wait a bit , they'll still be there when I get back ........I hope .
It's only 20 bucks and no subscription. I'll pick it up off Steam when there is a Mac port available and play it casually just like I do with the current TL. Mostly playing D3 right now and will be playing GW2 when they re-open digital sales. But I'm not in a hurry for the latter as I am not a fan of having to boot in to Windows 7 to play PC games.
Well-made ARPGs are a rarity, but there's been quite a few good ones since D2:
- Titan Quest and IT has kept me busy for a good chunk of time, Grim Dawn should be interesting with the open world concept
- Borderlands is great, and BL2 is out in 2 weeks for those who like the fps part
- I even liked Hellgate: London after a few patches, too bad the devs didn't get enough time to make it great
TL1 was uderwhelming and I probably won't get into TL2, but there certainly are alternatives to D3.
Borderlands suffered probably from the same problems as TL1.. It played very 1 dimensional & I found no real "choices" - I just picked the skills that seemed most fun but I couldn't really find synergies, nor did I see any point in trying out new builds.
I wish to find an RPG that requires MORE planning & taking MORE factors into account when dressing a character & choosing skills. And I wish to be punished a lot (& in effect get rewarded if not) by going the wrong path.
I'll give it a try. There's no reason not too.
Judging from a few previews and vids it seems like they made a few good improvements over T1.
But, I'll mainly be playing D3
and ya, I doubt T2 will be better than PoE which is my second choice after D3...
You are describing a bad player, not a bad game. There were plenty of unique, fun and effective builds for every class. My Roland shotgun commando (the most fun build ever) ran with 50% increased attack speed, -75% recoil, 10% life, 10% shield and +5 grenade regen with a pretty awesome elemental shotgun.
I also played a glass cannon mercenary Lilith build that would tear things apart, and later switched to plaguebearer with 170% bonus to group dmg after I found some pretty nice elemental SMGs. We must have put at least 500 hours into that game all the way up to the Armory of general Noxx expansion.
