Hello,
I'm looking for a game that finally puts me into the amazing state known as "thinking". Something where I can use the fact I study applied physics/aerospace engineering. Something that actually pains my head & if I fail I can say "wow that was a real mistake should learn from that".
Currently the very majority of the games I play -apart from chess- simply doesn't require any use of my mind. They all seem terribly simplistic, not requiring any planning or strategic decisions. Maybe it is because I'm older; or maybe since most companies aim for accessibility, but I'm really really searching for a game that forces me to think ahead chess-style.
Where I have to plan my moves/skills well in advance and take into account what an opposing monster can do. I like it if it has some kind of action RPG, maybe RPG-ish like dragon age:origins is even better - pausing allowed for a time to think. Though games as dragon age/final fantasy too seem to me very dull; no real strategy nor tactical decisions have to be made.
Are there any RPGs that are build around the idea of battling to be DIFFICULT? Not because of gear or reaction speed checks, but because of decisions that have to be made? What genre should I look for these type of games?
Microsoft Flight Simulator X
you get to play a pilot.
Already made the disc for that game gray :P.
You could try parenting?
Volunteer as a Big Brother or something and try raising kids.
Reward system in the game is amazing but it can cost a lot and it does not always go the way you plan.
But hey that's Real Life.
or try
Three-handed Pinochle or Cutthroat if you got 2 friends and a Pinochle deck, Or 3..

Sadly I don't have enough time to go with those elaborate things such as "raising kids". Being a student puts me in the time bracket of only having 1-2 hours time daily. I heard that you always fail the game then :(.
But in all seriousness - isn't there a game that prouds itself in being good for theorycrafting etc? A game which is played by many people & backboned by a large company?
GO

If you would rather play on a computer.
Meh then I can go chess.. I really like to go an RPG game where I can build a character. Really I've though many times about games such as final fantasy & pokemon. They DO in fact have an idea that leans itself very well for a tactical game, but in those games the actual choices for spell use/attack use are often so easy (start with debuffing, not even necessary often, deal dmg & heal up when necessary one could write a bot to do this) & especially the AI is so easy to predict it isn't fun.
Are there really no RPGs like that, which pride themself in a rich metagame, and constantly tweak the game to make it balanced & more rich? Not because of the millions of possible options, but because you have to adapt to each opponent & think ahead to a future opponents.
There are no computer *R*PGs. It needs a human game master as well as cooperating players to have anything which is worth being called roleplaying, but maybe that ascpect isn't the most important topic here.
