AH makes stuff so accessible that they have to make it so that finding a cool upgrade is a hassle. I don't see any way for them to counter this other than by removing AH, and that's definitely not happening. I think AH and RMAH is more their baby than D3 actually is.
I guess if they expanded a bit on blacksmithing, so that you can build your upgrades over a reasonable amount of time, it might help.
And the ability to craft Jewelry at the Jewelers, materials could be gotten from salvaging gems.
OP: this is exactly why i can't really do d3, no matter how hard i try. even though there is MANY aspects of the game i feel are flawless, well designed, and extremely polished... the itemization blows. and that is the number one most important thing (at least to me) in replayability for an ARPG.
they wouldn't need to remove the AH... it would just turn more closely to what trading diablo 2 uniques were... low rolled items people just tossed on alts and didnt bother trying to sell them, good and near perfect rolls were the ones that people wanted to buy. i think the market in general would just gravitate towards the good rolled uniques, and the bad rolled ones never selling.
So let me get this straight.... Itemization is Diablo 3 is still messed up even after the much anticipated (not to mention Hyped) patch? Honest question. Haven't played D3 in a while now. Was busy with job and Darksiders 2
Whats the overall approval rate of the patch since I am only coming across rants everywhere :/
I'm not a conspiracy theorist, But I'm going to do it anyway:
What If blizz don't WANT to fix the itemization, I mean come on, D3 released with crappy item system, the "value" of good items is high. They give a one month window to players to collect good items before they start the RMAH, ....... BAM.... things selling for around 250$ for the first couple of weeks, Bli$$ take their 15% cut, mega moola . Then it all stales again.
They now hit a major patch with the SAME 'slightly' buffed up itemization and add the "Paragon system" to give people an incentive to play the game for another 3-4 months, and the RMAH is flowing with the 15% cut again.
As far as I'm concerned, all these changes should have been in the game on release. :-/
You know I always wondered why Blizz don't listen to fan feedback.
Look at how open mindedly Runic took lessons home from the Torchlight 2 beta.
I think you cant just ignore the AH and play without using it. That would only work if you play it 100% like a single player game. Or if your friends also ignore and never use the AH. If your friends use the AH all the time they will be much stronger than you and you will be reminded all the time that much better gear exists in game. I think that is a problem that people often must deal with.
