Hey peeps -- It's been a few weeks. Hadn't touched DIII since then. I got excited about the patch 1.0.4 changes so I played quite a bit over the last 24 hours. Well, instead of writing a long-winded, boring expose, I will just give a few key points:
* No matter what changes are made to appearance, skills, paragon, magic find, etc, it doesn't really matter. The item pool STILL sucks. I ran a bunch of Inferno farming runs with 290% magic find. What did I find? A bunch of crappy blues, TONS of worthless rares, Lvl 62 two handers with 500 dps and Lvl 63 one handers with 200 DPS. No legendaries, no set items, nothing worth selling on AH.
Oh wait, no more points? Nope. Because this single point of failure still on Blizzard's part makes the game worthless as an ARPG. I've been playing Path of Exile and Borderlands these past two weeks instead = 10x more rewarding because at least I can find a cool upgrade or item if I farm all day. Diablo III, still, isn't the slot machine fun I was longing for. You can drop 1,000,000 rares (They aren't REALLY rare are they?) and if 99% of them suck, what's the fun?
Back to Borderlands and POE.. can't wait for GW2 and Borderlands 2. Wish this post was different. Thanks all for the good times over the past year or so. /signing off for good
While you're right about D3, PoE has the same major design flaws. No idea about the other games though.
Sounds like you had bad luck on one day. While I received no legendaries yesterday, the 2 people I was playing with both did. I myself found a very nice weapon upgrade for myself, a 1k DPS bow with 6 very good mods, 2 items I'm giving to other characters (high int gloves with crit % and max MF, and a mojo with amazing mods), and about 4 other items that are high sellers on the AH (2 have sold for 500k plus already).
If you use the AH, be prepared to make 'good' finds less frequently. If you cannot understand why this is so (not Blizzard's fault other than that they do have an AH) and get over it, you should not be using the AH: no drop rate increase, new legendaries, different itemization, etc. will solve this problem as it will all quickly become garbage to you.
The odds are, Diablo games will not reward you with something good every time you sit down to play. If you're not having fun, by all means, do something else. If you're going to pout because the new patch didn't spawn you an awesome legendary, then that's just plain crazy. There aren't "participation points" or "golden effort stars" to be found here.
By the way, if you kill Cramerax a few times in Borderlands you'll basically have the best guns you could ask for, with which to kill Crawmerax faster the next time. You'll eventually have 100 awesome Pestilent Defilers, and seldom find an upgrade unless it's some type of gun you never use. That said, I love Borderlands.
The reward factor remains a massive flaw in D3. The rewards are just far too scarce. Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 were far, far more rewarding. Too much even, but certainly closer to a good balance than D3. There's something insanely logically flawed about making a game like this not give enough rewards. The fun factor spikes each time you get a nice drop. I haven't noticed that I have more fun with huge dry spells rather than more consistent rewards like in the previous games. It simply has a fun decreasing effect. Aren't games supposed to be fun? I'm not playing D3 because I want to admire an in game economy that's not flooded(which will happen eventually in any case) and I'm not playing it because I want to hear some doofus moralize me for not having patience or wanting everything spoonfed to me. I play it so I can have my slot machine happening=fun. lol
Best of luck with your other forms of entertainment.
This game has created two unique perspectives through play experience.
The auction house user's play experience is far different from someone who doesn't use them.
Using DH as a main with pretty mundane gear . In Act 2 inferno.
only left the barbarian at 28, left everyone else at start of inferno
But usually do a siegebreaker to azmodan (hell) just before sleep.
Almost every run i get upgrades.
:P
*wizard got a pants and a pair of nice boots
Btw u guys feel rare rings and ammy is droppin alot more?
Playing a little more now I am getting some decent damage weapons...nothing usable or even sellable so far, but the drops aren't so completely demoralizing anymore lol
