That's a sweeping generalization. And, like most sweeping generalizations, it's false.Above is the reason why people can't be thankful: everything that is successful is hated.
be that Microsoft, Apple, COD, WOW and so now Diablo 3.
I don't hate Microsoft, I actually like it. I don't use much Apple Stuff, but that's because I enjoy being different with my blackberry - not because I really dislike apple (although I do prefer a bunch of Microsoft stuff where the two successful companies do compete directly, and i never liked those blueberry etc colored computers). I don't hate COD; I've just never played it because fps games aren't really my thing. I don't love WoW, but I play it because the game I wanted to love crashed and burned really really really hard (maybe harder than D3, even...).
Also slightly confusing to me that you want to tie in people's appreciation of D3 to our willingness to "hit the button" and have a nuclear holocaust. But whatever...
Thankful?!?!?! You couldn't possibly be serious could you?!?!?
Upon release this game felt like it was in alpha, and 1.04 may as well be a beta.
-End game - nearly unplayable / there is none. Essentially no improvement from D2.
-They have to re-do every legendary item because they were that bad.
-Rares are still so bland. The affixes are much more boring compared to D2.
-Drop rate is so bad you need to buy nearly everything off the AH.
-It is a multiplayer game, yet playing in a group was essentially 'bad' due to increased mob HP and damage, and shared MF.
-Elite / rare champ packs are broken.
-Only 1 or 2 builds for each class, which is once again less than there were in D2.
So I am supposed to be thankful for blizzard fixing the crap they produced? D3 was the most expensive alpha / beta I have ever participated in. I didn't expect it to be 100% polished, but holy hell after a decade of working on this they had to COMPLETELY tweak inferno and all of the legendaries. Simply embarrassing. Ohhh hey lets not forget to mention bnet 2.0 which killed all social aspects of bnet, and hasn't managed to keep out dupes / hackers / or botters.
So thank you blizzard. Thank you for a beta patch (1.04), at this rate D3 is about 6 months away from being playable. Continue to celebrate your 'victories' ie; "boom the legendaries are better now!" you guys deserve it.
I think someone needs a hug.
if you went to a 5 star restaurant, placed your order, paid for the food before getting it, and then had to wait 45 minutes to be served only to taste the food and find it unappetizing and disappointing.
Would you be thankful for the food ?
What if you complained to the waiter and he told you it was a new team of cooks in the kitchen; would you be forgiving ? (even though you already paid for the food and spent 45 minutes waiting and didn't like it)
why should you be thankful ?
This is exactly the point I've been trying to get across in the Slap in the Face thread. The game has severe design problems (see Deckard's post above for a list that sums it up) that not only are not being comprehensively addressed by Blizzard, but to some extent are not even being acknowledged.
Until Blizzard 'fesses up and admits that the entire concept of drops and itemization is rigged around creating player dependancy on the GAH-RMAH combo, then any other so-called "fixes" are just placebos, and no, I will not be grateful for that.
People are thankful, we just don't show it. I guess it is the nature of human, game or real life and partly cause it is constructive negative feedback that does game better, not the positive feedback which might be obvious to all.
I guess I just prefer the glass half full.
