I am at work now but I keep thinking about my DH-build for some reason.
A few questions popped up though and since I can not experiment with the game for a great deal of hours I thought I just as well might ask you guys.
Can someone make a list of what skills requires missile weapons? (or just point me to the wiki if it is in there)
Can you equip quivers with melee weapons?
Can you equip one melee weapon and one 1h-xbow?
And a meta-question; does anyone here play melee at all? For fun or challenge.
I use a DH tank build, with a bow, but could just as easily use a sword and shield. I've not found a good 1h weapon yet and the 1h xbows are about 10% of the price of the equivalent 1h sword so for now that's what I'm doing. Your best bet will be grenades with impale. You don't need a bow for these. Gas grenades are the most effective in conjunction LOH, and impale with over penetration is great for attacking mobs at a distance.
Most of the other skills require a bow, except for chakram. A good build is gas grenades, over penetration, and shuriken cloud. You cannot equip quivers with melee weapons, and you can't equip melee with 1h-xbow.
I'm currently farming act 1 inferno with this build and it's very safe and fun. However you have to focus on +armor and res-all and sacrifice some dps, but since you are constantly attacking instead of trying to dodge attacks it makes up for it. I have >4k armor, 650 res, and 950 loh.
Very interesting! =)
It is to late for me to get to playing now, but I might back up an act and try this out tomorrow to see how it feels.
I guess some flexibility is lost but it seems pretty awesome to me.
I have some experience playing a melee DH albeit it is in SC.
I agree theres no reason to use a melee wep over a hand crossbow, theyre just way more expensive since monks and barbs are already fighting over them.
Spike trap -> scatter rune is a really strong rune even though it has some delay and it can be used both offensively ontop of ranged creeps or defensively right in front of you (with numbing traps you get -25% enemy dmg aswell). Tears through big bosses aswell with 3x275 dmg. Caltrops - jagged spikes work really well with LoH from duel crossbows but you need preparation and some +disc on gear to make use of it and still leave some discipline for shadow power - gloom. Dont think I'd recommend it in a hardcore build tbh.
Fan of knives works ok with retaliate or fan of daggers (also activates numbing traps if you aren't running caltrops) but the cooldown does limit its use somewhat.
Shuriken cloud is also somewhat of a filler with decent LoH coefficients and damage but the 10 yard range of the skill means itll work rarely vs elites when you're avoiding fire chains, lasers, desecrator etc.
I'd be inclined to take rain of vengeance - stampede instead as an oh-**** button if your disc happens to be too low.
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculato...Vdl!VZb!ccYYZb Something like this would be what I'd run. Gas grenades is the only skill benefitting from LoH but you'll be hard pressed to get more than 1000 anyways while using a shield and gloom heals well with scatter.
