I am puzzled about these monsters and their shield that surrounds even the white types. It cuts down the damage quite a lot, making them very hard to kill if you ignore the shield.
The shield surrounds the monster after the first hit. Seems to stay during combat but if I leave it out of screen for too long it disappears only to re-appear with the next hit.
I read two conflicting explanations, one saying they always have physical resistance, other saying they become resistant to the type of attack they are first hit with. My basic experiment with them seems to indicate they are always physical resistant regardless of the first attack, but I am not too sure. Which one of these is correct?
Also are there any other monster types that have very high resistance to certain attack types?
Thanks,
Nac
They're not always phyiscal resistant. You can very clearly see from the color of their shield what they're resistant too. On my wizard for example they would often come up green from the venom hydra, and I would just end up killing them with seeker missiles and blizzard. Or they'd come up blue from blizzard and hydra would kill them, whatever. I'm not sure if it is always the first hit, but they definitely pick their shield based on the type of damage you do to them.
This makes sense. When last I fought those guys I had an arcane damage one handed weapon and the shield became a purple color. I hadn't payed enough attention to see it that way, thanks for pointing that out.
The "blazing guardians" and other elemental aspects of the same type of monster in act 2 are all quite resistant to their inherent damage type.
Perhaps the vile guys who shoot their limbs underground that sprout up at your feet with a poison area are poison resistant as well.
