I've been looking and I've noticed a lot of high tier wizard's using this with the armor:

My question is for those boots which give 5-6% extra poison damage, does that mean your weapon must have poison damage on it for it to work? Thanks, ~Adam
I'm guessing it's to boost the damage of venom hydra. I don't think you need a poison weapon.
Based on what I've read the boots (and the set bonuses from Tal Rasha's) simply add the % damage to your total damage. You are not required to have have a poison weapon or use poison based skills to get the bonus, it simply gives you 6% additional damage as poison. I don't have any sources off-hand, but I'm sure you could find the posts on the net if you googled it.
It increases the base physical damage of your weapon by 5-6%, odd as that seems. The element type has absolutely no effect. 6% poison damage is the same as 6% lightning damage, fire damage, or whatever else.
And yeah, if you can afford it, the 2 piece is very nice. The ring can be good too if it rolls the right random properties.
Great, definitely gonna get at least 2 of the set, and definitely going to get those boots. That's stupid that the word "poison" is pointless and just throws people off. THanks, Blizz
When the game adds the 6% poison damage to your total damage. Does it remember that 6% is poison damage so it gets reduced by monsters with poison resistance?
His gear is absolutely amazing. Multiple pieces that would cost several hundred million+ on GAH. He's killed a few more elite packs than I have, but not a ton more. Calling RMAH. Also, the damage on his profile seems low, must be a bug. 35k with 2400 int, 45% crit, and 350% crit dmg, and 38% IAS?
He must demolish elite packs. In a solo game, 341k damage on arcane orb with 350% crit damage... 341x1.75x3.5 is like 2 million damage per crit. Even extra health packs probably don't have more than say, 6-10 million health in acts 3/4.
Man, and I was excited when my crits started hitting for 100k.
Paperdoll damage includes crit damage already.
His maximum possible arcane orb crit should be:
(wand max damage + source max damage) * int modifier * crit damage modifier * arcane orb modifier * glass cannon modifier * (sparkflint modifier + force weapon modifier) = max crit
(1129+387)*(1+29.02)*(1+3.56+0.5)*1.75*1.15*(1 + 0.12 + 0.15) = 588,573
