As opposed to what? WUG WUW FG PLZ NG BAALBOT 85?This game's social aspect is a festering roadkill.
You're late to the party with your witty comparisons. The social aspect of today's gaming community is a festering roadkill.
I love grinding. There's nothing about grinding that's aged badly or ever will. Give me a good game that I enjoy and I'll grind the hell out of it. The D2 kind of monotonous and non challenging grind might belong in the past. But the rewarding item hunt is as awesome as ever and that's why I still play D2. Which leads to the problems in D3: The item hunt has regressed. Items are boring and you just dont get enough rewards. In addition to that, while your typical run is through an entire act and elite packs provide decent challenge(when not OP), the end game grind still feels very featureless. There's only so many times you want to run through Act 1 inferno and dodge mortar and arcanes before it starts feeling very monotonous. Add to that almost no exciting drops and you'll start wondering what for am I doing this anymore.
Yeah this is mostly because so many uniques in d3 are useless. Expecially weapons. Also i don't know but the drop rate seems lower for uniques/set items in d3?
Very good point. In 1 hour in d2 you could find alot of good stuff that were actually useful in one way or another. D3's item system is too simplified. You can farm for hours in d3 and find nothing of value.. at all! And yes act bosses need some buff badly.
Couldn't agree more with you. We need more items and all that involves. Bring back the freaking cube with the formulas! Bring back unique features on unique items to make them worth using! (Knockback on D2 windforce, Static field on d2 schaefer's hammer and so on) Bring back rune words!, jewels!, bring back looking for socketables!, ethereal items for mercs etc! Make gems more useful! Charges on items with skills from other classes! On hit special effects frm other classes! Crushing blow to help the eternal struggle for max dps!
The list could go on forever but you sir summed up everything so well in your post.
The chances of finding a legendary in D3 is probably around the chance of finding Ber+ in D2 (my personal opinion).
.... no they didn't. The game has a completely different style, conception, and set of mechanisms behind it.Take D2, re-skin it to modern graphic standards, re-release it, and it would fail faster than D3 has.
How can I say this? Well, thats what Blizzard did, in D3, as well as adding everything we wished D2 had.
I can't speak for you, but "we" never all wished for this new stylistic decision. We never all wished for all the new mechanics. We never all wished for an RMAH. Some people might have wished for those things, but /certainly/ not all. I'm fairly sure not even a majority.
Your point that "we've changed as gamers" is true... but all the claims you pin on that aren't. I may expect different things from a game now, but there are other things I want in a game now just as much as I did then. Certain fundamentals don't "vanish" just because other aspects of gaming evolve. Same is true of anything really, not just gaming. Most of us probably never wrote brilliant papers in 5th or 6th grade, but that doesn't mean that a lot of the fundamental skills we were using then aren't equally fundamental in a quality graduate student's dissertation or what have you.
We've changed as people too. We're big now, and harder to "scare". But the fact is that the Diablo 3 reboot doesn't even try to create that kind of an atmosphere. It's not that it can't be done (it clearly can be done, other games have been recently created that are quite atmospheric despite other flaws). It's that it's not attempted in D3. It's not the goal. They didn't want to do it.
What irritates me the most is that they consciously made these choices, because they're not dumb and they're not poor developers. I imagine they have some good logic, although I can't fathom what it is. That's why I find it frustratingly easy to believe all the "conspiracy" junk about testing the waters for RMAH stuff in future games.
So the truth of why D3 is broken's not that we've changed (although we have). It's that we wanted product A and were given product B.
He's talking about the chat channels... not trading. This game's social aspect is a festering roadkill.
The whole game is joke when it comes to any kind of social interaction.
Diablo 3 is basically an online-only single player game. There's no advantage to playing with other people. There's no central hub where people can hang out (just fixing this would make a huge difference). The 4 player limit is awful.
It reminds me a lot of SC2 in the early days, but worse.
I think this is one of the few areas where conspiracy theories are actually valid. The lack of social framework in this game is unbelievable. It's difficult to believe that the developers didn't do it on purpose. The failure is pretty amazing.
Don't make me laugh.
99% of the items that drop in d2 hell meph/85 areas are always low/mid level junk which I don't even pick up, the chances of finding good elite gear is very very low, most of the elite unique and rares are not even worth to pick.
The current drop system in D3 coupled with valor buff is a huge leap forward from the crapfest drop system in d2.
It isn't about the drop rate, but the item affixes, get that into your head.
bnet 2.0 > bnet 1.0
Apart from the useless visual aspect of seeing other player's avatar, there is nothing "social" about the old chat channels. You can't even view the player's profile.
There are advantages of playing with others, please go get a copy of D3 and play it before making such stupid comments.
Nah, item hunts are still very much exciting to people. WoW might be slightly declining, but people are still raiding 4 nights out of the week in the hopes that that one shiny item drops. That's basically WoW's bread and butter. It's why people grind for days on Honor (currency used to buy items) or run the same dungeons 20-60 times, it's all so they can buy those epix. So obviously it still works, and has worked over the last 10 years, and though less people are playing WoW, it's more because the game's fundamentals have grown stale than because they are tired of lusting after new loot.
I get what you're saying but it's a bit too simple and too broad. I think if someone really didn't care for loot anymore, they wouldn't even be here discussing the game. I think they'd find no enjoyment in a game like this, and be out doing something else, or just playing another game, such as Amnesia which offers an incredible experience and nothing but that with little to no concern for items of any kind.
