Am not playing a particularly tanky build nor am I a pure DPS DH, but rather a sort of hybrid build with a good chunk of all res and middling stats (39k dps, 31k hp, 300+ all res etc)
I have an emerald on my xbow at the moment and wondering what to go with really. With the xbow, I'm at (buffed) 1.70 AS and doing just under 39k damage so clearly I'd lose out on DPS if I switched it out but the extra LoH which would take me to around +500 total would be nice for the extra survivability on HC/A1/Inferno.
I could switch Caltops from TG to JS to take advantage of the LoH/fear/immobilize I have on my items but wonder if the 1.7 AS is "good" enough reason to switch away from the purely defensive TG to the more attacking JS? I would still use caltrops as part of my kiting as a way to slow enemies down as opposed to more gung-ho SS into a crowd then drop JS all over the place style.
I'm thinking if I have to kite, then clearly it's something I can't kill quick enough so the extra damage/LoH from JS would be better overall especially in a longer fight, it's just the TG counters +fast and that's all the advantages it needs to make it a contender.
At this point I wouldn't be going full Gloom/LoH build as I don't have the 1H bows for it. Basically, is it worth the DPS hit for the extra LoH? (will be using EF/CF and Impale/Overpen as my attacks)
Well neither of your main abilities have particularly good LoH coefficients, and having just JS just the healing isn't going to be reliable enough if you can't tank mobs since fast mobs will run through the caltrops really quickly and ofc it wont work on ranged mobs. Same deal with the chance to fear etc. its not nearly a big enough chance unless you drop 6 caltrops in 1 spot but then having no discipline isnt fun either
The only reason I'd get LoH over crit dmg would be if you're having issues with reflect damage elites.
The LoH would be specifically to counter +reflect mobs but maybe I'll stick to crit damage and still with SP/Gloom.
