    Shooting at Sikh Temple

I live in Milwaukee and I was actually pulled over by the FBI because I had no idea this was going on. I was supposed to go bowling with some friends. I just had to drive around. If you didn't hear:

    http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/08/06...n-sikh-temple/

I know a few people who go to that temple (they're fine). I just don't get why someone would do this.

There's a lot of talk that, since he's a white supremacist, that he is too goddamn stupid to tell the difference between a Sikh and a Muslim because they both wear turbans. I don't know about that.

Why? I'm an atheist but as far as religions go I think the Sikh are pretty damn cool. They preach nothing but tolerance, and consider themselves "saint warriors" (their words, not mine). After their services at this temple they serve a dinner and anyone who comes by (even if they didn't go to the service) can eat free of charge.

Fox News link above obviously wouldn't do this but many news outlets describe him as being "far right" but I don't know when "far right" started meaning psychotic mass-murdering racist.

Mass shootings are never a joyous occasion but this one really confuses and angers me. They're such good people.

The shooter got a few rounds into one of the police officers on the swat team, and that wounded officer is the one who eventually killed him. He's now in the hospital but is expected to make a full recovery, which is just amazing.

    Well...
    Many Muslims don't wear turbans.
and Does he not have a 911 tattoo?
    But...
I think he did not care as they were different from local Whites he liked, could have been a Black Baptist church just as easy or a Synagogue or Mosque though - would not make him any smarter IMHO.

Out of a strictly curiosity stand point I have always wanted to sit down with someone so obviously blinded by racism. I really wish to understand what they were thinking, how they became so far gone from reality and then try to grasp whatever defects lead them to their desire to do such idiotic things. Its strange. Political views and ideas can differ and do, but that jump to out-lashing hatred and violence is something that I cant grasp.

People already have sat down with them. You can research their findings in scientific journal articles (hint: it was monstrous child abuse that caused this behaviour). You can't really trust your own feelings because we are all slaves to our own biases, much like the shooters themselves. Thus, science is the best tool for gaining insight.

I got that part down. Gone over the articles, the stories, the events and the supposed motives that have been presented. I was referring to wanting to witness first hand people's explanations. In a way kind of hear from the horses mouth or however that saying goes and ask them to explain it to you and debate. But yea, science only gets you so far but it seems with things like this it is hard to fully gain the whole story, you want that interview or something along those lines that makes you sad and scratch your head at the same time.

No, that's like torturing a retard for pronouncing things wrong. I'm guessing we will learn the usual: the guy was moulded into what he is by abusive elders, and their elders before them did similar brain damage to the guy's parents. Extrapolate back to medieval times with child abuse worsening as you go back farther. Who can we pin the blame on, really, when we know it is the culture of cyclic abusive upbringings? Media will, of course, put whatever spin on it they want to distract us from the real cause I mentioned. It was this group or that political ideology, etc, that made him do it.

We already have mountains of research on this sort of behaviour. It ranges from the mild (spanking lowers IQ and results in later aggression and delinquency) to severe (most serial killers were beaten, raped, etc as children). It's kind of like the data we have on sun damage to the skin. The verdict has been out for years, but people want to ignore it and find their own reasons for all the ugliness in the world.

    Well Yes.

But a few year of a verdict does not change much apparently.

    Re: Shooting at Sikh Temple

The truth is too harsh, I guess. In the permanent skin damage example, no one wants to avoid the sun b/c of all the traditional fun to be had outside. With child abuse, spanking and more severe beatings get quick results: compliance, temporary obedience, capitulation. No one wants to give that up, so they deny the science and come up with another culprit: porn, horror movies, a political viewpoint, etc.

The article says the shooter died anyway, but I'm sure more will come. There are millions of these guys with PTSD just waiting for someone to put them over the line. It truly is hard to lay blame, since poverty can lead to stress and too many work hours, pressuring more parents into beating their kids for instant results and turning them into future killing machines.
