Question WW crit barb, fury generation?.....

do the run like the wind tornadoes generate fury when they crit when you are using into the fray ?
how much crit% before you can start to WW with tornadoes and maintain it for a long time?

    build so far.

without weapons master or berserk rage I'm just off 30% crit and 1k all res

I'm not using a mighty weapon, trying to decide if I should get more crit or not, it will dictate which weapons I purchase.

You pretty much stumbled across one of the current most popular Barbarian builds. Take a look:

    http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/s...d-Barb-(Video)

Short answer: Yes Run like the Wind tornados proc Into the Fray like crazy. Run Like the Wind + WW with Hurricane + Into the Fray = Neverending WhirlyBarb. You don't even need super-high crit to make it work (though I'm sure it helps). Slap on a decent amount of Life on Hit and you should be pretty tough to kill.

Also, Wrath of the Berserker + Thrive on Chaos plays very nicely with this as well, allowing you to be a Super Barbarian as long as you have things to whirl into.

I wouldn't want much less than 40% chance to crit with the build. You can get by with less, but at that point you have to be pretty conservative with how much you whirlwind. If you have/get an axe, mace, or a mighty weapon, I would use weapon mastery instead of animosity to help generate more fury; otherwise I would probably use ruthless.

You know, I could never get this build to work for me. I tried again today testing it is Act 1, and can't get WW to go non stop as I always run out of fury. I struggle in the acts, just killed belial in Act 2 to go on to act 3. But I struggled a lot, as I haven't spent any more than 5M total.

it's too bad, becasue I was a fan on the D2 WW barb.

Re: WW crit barb, fury generation?.....

yeah, I can't seem to get it to work either. I specced into weapon master instead of animosity and got an off hand mace 600dps 600 LoH open socket (emerald) and I seem to be doing better but the incoming Life and fury are still unreliable. I find I can start to do act 3 really carefully if I swap berserk for overpower with crushing advance. then I can flick OP on if I'm low on health or fury and WW through to the other side alive. run clear and as I'm running away (if I dont rubber band) my fury and life will go back to max from tornadoes so I can whirl back on through.

I still need more resists, and some more HP and more Crit would help. currently sitting on 1100 LoH with star amethyst in Main hand, hoping to purchase a 800dps 300-400 LoH open socket (with str/vit) for under a mill (which I have to farm now that I'm broke) even with that, I wonder how these streamers are managing it, their gear must be through the roof expensive. all I want to do is get good enough to farm the good areas so I can get my friends up there as well and start getting better gear, for the inevitable expansion/ patch that will require a rebuild :P

any thoughts on the off hand? I replaced a 830dps open socket blue axe with 45% crit emerald for the 600dps one described above. and as for the Main hand am I being too picky? or will I have enough LoH if I drop it on main hand all together? my DPS is weak so I really want to get star emeralds in both weapons as it will be my only source of crit damage on this gear.

If anyone would like some in-game tips/examples/demonstrations you're welcome to pm me. Obviously (with as much as I hang around here) I like talking about D3 strategy.

Re: WW crit barb, fury generation?.....

For the offhand, one suggestion is to search for a dagger with an open socket and as much LoH as you can get. Any strength/vitality on it would be a bonus. The damage on it isn't as important since you are really just looking for its speed. I think you can find some in the 400 dps range for reasonable prices but that was a few days ago so things might have run dry. I used one of these daggers to help me put Act 2 on farm status. Then I happened to get lucky with a mighty sword drop with 780 dps, 700 LoH, some strength and an open socket, so I traded it out with the dagger and boosted my dps and LoH. Once I get some more resists I'm thinking of giving Act 3 a shot.

Hands down though, the WW/Nado barb preserved this game for me. I was getting bored with Act 1 farming with a revenge/frenzy build. Slow and boring and I got wasted in Act 2. Switched up to this build, spent about 1 mil on upgrades and now farming Act 2 and having a blast doing so. I really hope Blizz keeps their hands off this build. Cheers.

I would suggest looking for a MH Mace/Axe with 700-790 dps with 100+Str and Crit Damage 50+ and an OS, you can buy this right now for about 2-3m gold for the 750+ ones. Then find an off hand with 600-700dps and 100 Str, 600 Loh, OS or CD. Because with DW all the weapon mods stack they are more important then base DPS with DW.

I am really trying to make this build work as I agree with all of you I cannot keep WW up 100% of the time. I am doing a bit better since I hit about 45% crit hit. I definitely kill things faster but die a bit more then I did with DW Frenzy, Revenge, Battle Rage/Maurader, Ignore Pain, WotB, War Cry build.

No matter how good your gear is, you'll die from a weird rubberbanding effect whirlwind produces(even though they said they fixed it.)

Re: WW crit barb, fury generation?.....

You guys seem to not understand where your real damage is coming from. The sprint tornadoes are what is killing your enemies, not your whirlwind. Hurricane is only a bonus that you use simply because it's the only attack that can be used at the same time as run like the wind. it is rather weak, but free extra damage is free extra damage. If you are running out of fury, just stop using it until you have enough. As long as you are sprinting, stuff are going to die.

To stay alive you need the right combination of armor/resist/life on hit (to get enough effective healing, aka out-healing monster damage). 600 should be enough in act 1 if your resists aren't terrible (minimum 300 unbuffed, preferably 400+), but with bad resists you need more life on hit to get the same effect.

There are many threads about this build, many streamers using it, and kripp uploaded several videos about it (at least 3: about weapon selection, survivability and overall gameplay strategy).
