so over in the official forums they're debating if Bind On Equip might show up in patch 1.0.4
they're speculating that new legendaries will be added, and while these legendaries won't be "godly", they will be the legendaries we have all been hoping for
some dude is claiming to have inside information (yeah, right)
he says these items will have a higher drop rate than normal and in addition to the regular mods they are guaranteed to have one of : +skill bonuses, reduced skill costs, extra damage, melee/range DR, elite bonus damage, elite DR and resist all
the catch is they will be Bind On Equip (bind to character, not to account)
I think this is nonsense
Blizzard would never do this to D3
BOE would certainly have interesting effects on the AH
how much would you spend on a "semi-godly" item if you knew you couldn't resell it or pass it on to a new char ?
that seems like it would keep the prices low, but BOE also seems like it should limit supply, thus keeping prices somewhat high
what would your reaction be to BOE semi-godly legandaries in 1.0.4 ?
or BOE on any item at all ?
boe is definitely useful, it prevents the economy from being cluttered up, in this case, by legendary items.
if that happens, then it will d2 all over again, the economy will be cluttered by all these items, making all other items useless.
I don't see the issue here, provided the item is salvageable.
I also hope they do not increase the drop rates of legend items drastically to that of D2, they are meant to be rare pieces of unique items that should not over flood the market.
I seriously hope they implement this. This should be on all godly items. Won't hurt trading too much and will def help alleviate the huge item mess that will eventually occur.
I think it would be interesting if this was an affix that may or may not end up in the stats so there's both BOE and non-BOE versions of items.
unless jay wilson is fired there will never be boe in d3.
BOE could work on godly legendaries but it goes against the Diablo system. I don't think they should make it BOE because people have a hard enough time getting good gear as it is. Why make it even harder on them? If there were a million cheap legendaries then the noobs could load up on legendaries and then save up for the godly rare items. The way I thought the game was originally going to be (and many others). BOE on more than a tiny portion of items would probably be a nightmare for people and would make them even more unhappy. BOA would not work for Diablo 3. I am curious as to how + skills would work in this game considering all skills don't have skill levels, it doesn't seem likely to be put into the game. Even if they did put + skills into the game, chances are they wouldn't balance it correctly and people would be upset once again.
While far from the "interesting" affixes we've all been seeking, I will take whatever crazy pills they throw at the game at this point.
I've always supported a BoE system, because despite what Blizzard say with their "1% of items" analogy, it is the only viable way to combat the number of good items entering and never exiting the economy.
I had an idea a few months ago of a BoE system that allows you to "unbind" the item for a materials cost (Fiery Brimstone). The theory behind this is that for every item you unbind and put back in the economy, it would take another item out.
I'm not a fan of BoE. If anything I would have liked a BoP system so the best items you must find rather than trade, but of course Blizzard expected the rage from those who want to trade everything like in D2 to be greater than the rage of those who don't want to sit all day in the AH. Plus you can claim the money they wanted to make from the RMAH affected this claim, though I believe they would have done the same without the RMAH.
A game where you can trade everything will always get its market saturated eventually. You can already see this with starter items you would need to clear act 1 inferno (they cost so little now they are practically free), and the threshold will go higher and higher as time passes. There is no way to work around it other than eliminating the ability to trade the grand majority of the end-game items with a system similar to WoW (where most good stuff are bind on pickup, and only a small % of the good stuff are trade-able).
Your "unbind" system wouldn't work, either, as people find plenty of junk all the time there would be plenty of materials you can use to unbind the items, thus completely nullifying the binding system. Unless all BoE items are absolutely amazing, but that's just not going to happen even if they did want to implement such a system.
With the game currently completely based around trading, there is no way they could implement any binding system that would make sense. Plus it is against what they said they believe should be the way of Diablo 3 before it was even released ("you will be able to trade everything aside from very specific quest items" (and potions)).
I beg to differ - the extra demand for FB will make junk lvl60+ items more useful and expensive so they definitely won't cost under 100k like it is now. It would also mean that every item worth using unbind for would remove hundreds of lower-quality 60+ legendaries essentially slowing the saturation of the low-end market.
