Since I'm rather poor gold wise and haven't really been able to get into the fiery brimstone trade too deeply (I think I've managed to get only get 8 so far) do you think Tomes will be a decent investment once the patch hits? I had already saved up 100s just from playing, and sell some now and again if I need the gold and I get atleast 1k per tome, but do you think I should start buying them when they reach low prices and stock up, or unload everything I have now while theyre still worth something?
Also is it worth more to vendor items I find in inferno or should I salvage them hoping for fiery brimstone since one of them is worth like over 100x what the vendor pays. Also if anybody knows the odds of getting fiery brimstone from salvaging blue/yellow inferno items I'd love to know. I've looked a little online but have found many conflicting answers.
Oh and 1 more think a little off topic is it worth it to upgrade gems to make a profit, or do the mats+cost to upgrade make it not really possible to make a profit off that?
Thank you for the help as usual. Sorry if some/all of this has been discussed b4, but I'm juts having alot of trouble progressing in A3 inferno and I'm way too broke too upgrade my gear so trying to find a way to make some relatively easy gold since I'm kinda sick of Butcher runs never finding an upgrade.
Since the last patch I've salvaged thousands of rares over ilvl60. I've gotten a total of 1 fiery brimstone from them.
Crafting gem for a good profit is almost impossible, imo.
Vendor everything (or almost everything). Very few items actually sell low enough to the vendor to be worthy of a salvage, even if you eventually end up buying the materials. If you are selling materials, you should vendor everything above 85% of the material cost (which is almost everything), and salvage the rest. If you craft and actually use more materials than you get in this manner, then you should vendor everything above 100% of the material cost (which is still basically almost everything) and salvage the rest.
Note that rares sell for a lot to the vendors in most cases (even moreso than blue items), while the brimstones from them are super extremely rare and the tears aren't worth more than their vendor value (which is less than 100 gold).
I believe one of the reasons that the material prices are so low is due to too many people just salvaging all level 60 items without realizing that they are much better off vendoring them. As people ignore the costs, the market gets flooded with materials, and it becomes even more worthwhile to just vendor stuff.
One good thing I can say about this situation is that it means crafters mostly need gold rather than materials, meaning gold inflation will be limited. If materials were the limitation, then even without botters gold would have been forever increasing and losing value.
Thanx for the advice. I wasn't aware that the chances of getting fiery brimstone were so low, I figured since FB sells for like 150k now and most item vendor for under 1k I would think you'd be able to make more trying for the brimstone but I guess not.
I've done some math with gem upgrading also and it seems like the profit in that is either very low or non existent at all so I don't think I'll be producing any gold that way unless I get really lucky and find some jeweler plans to unload while they're still rare.
As far as Tomes of Secrets I've noticed them going down lately being around the 750 mark for a while now, you guys think I should get rid of my little stockpile (like 600 or so) of them now or do you think the price will go back up at some point?
tomes of jewelcrafting is retarded you can buy a flawless gem for cheaper then the tome
I used to spend time at the forge deciding on an item-to-item basis as to whether each magic item was better to salvage than to vendor. But since that takes time and mental energy, eventually I gave up and just started vendoring everything magic (the blue items). I now evaluate only the rare (yellow) items, to check for possible Auction House (or personal use) value.
It's less effort and allows me to quickly re-enter the field of battle.
The price last week was worth salvaging all jewelry 59+/blues 60+, and yellows (worth less than 1500g). The materials on the AH have since dropped to about 600g per essence. I have switched to vendoring everything thats not a level 59+ legendary. Tome's have also dropped to about 600-700 per from 1500 per.
You can attribute the lack of bot bannings this week + the lack of blue responses to issues + lack of patches fixing things to people basically mass exodusing the game. I went from 7-8 people on my friends lists last week at prime time, to 1.
So again, you should still ID all blue weapons/jewelry (some of them will still go for millions) before vendoring.
Rares are usually too expensive to salvage. 99.9% go to the vendor even if you do check their value. Much more likely to find a blue item cheap enough to be better salvaging. In the end neither vendoring nor salvaging is worth the town trip. Just pick up items that might be worth something after identifying and move on to the next elite pack, only going to town when your inventory is full of unidentified rares (which you can then vendor when you find out they suck since you are already in town and already have them in your inventory).
