Do I need a shield to make use of a +X to block? (eg HoC)der=0>

Silly question really, since the HoC gives a bonus to block, I assume I need to have a shield for it to do anything? Else an extra +X of 0-0 block is just a waste of my money, right?

Interestingly it will still pop up the message that you've blocked the attack, but you'll take full damage anyway.

I suppose looking at it objectively, it would make it BiS for all if it didn't need a shield
