In Diablo 3 threads I have argued, that drops were much better in Diablo 2 than Diablo 3. That is how I remembered it. It is questioned, so I decided to test it out. So I found my old original Diablo 2 disks, installed, spend some time fighting weird colours until I found out they were good when playing in windowed mode.
I will only count rare, set and unique items. I won't farm any areas, just play through.
My findings:
Act1: 2 rare items.
Act2: 2 rare, 1 set item
Act3: 1 rare, 3 set, 1 unique item
Act4: 1 rare, 3 set, 1 unique item
Act1
Compared to Diablo 3 guaranteed 4 rares, it does not look that I proved much so far.
Act2
Not much better, except I never seen a green in Diablo 3.
Act3
Now it got more fun and the unique I found was a nice upgrade!
Act4
Same as act3. Total is less than D3 when it comes to rare and above, but I have never gotten a set item or legendary when playing through normal in D3 and I've done that 6 times.
I know the "data" does not justify the title yet, but so far I am enjoying it, despite the graphics, so will update this post with my findings, when I get acts done and possibly play more characters through.
Please add your findings, if you play 1.00.

Updated and reserved this post, if I should need the space.

Normal done, now I am considering if I should continue in nightmare or play another character through normal 1.01.
