Just curious, how many people are going back to Diablo 2? Are you enjoying Diablo 3?
As Diablo 3 is right now, I am under the belief that Diablo 2 is better in almost every way possible except for the PvM and graphics.. and really, as far as the PvM, it is sort of lame that there are no 0skills or weapon switches, you can only use 6 skills...
I was really looking forward to Diablo 3 and am disgusted that I am bored with it after a month, I will be playing Diablo 2 and LoL.
The itemization in D3 obviously needs some work, but even after they fix legendaries/sets there are still no socketables, superiors, ethereals, jewels, charms, runes, runewords, pandamoneum keys, weapon switches, 0skills, crushing blow, chance to cast on hit, lifetap charges, mercs carrying big polearms doing big damage. Sort of sad to me.
The Neph Valor isn't fun to me either. Something I really like about D2 was that I could play it for 15 minutes or 3 hours and feel like I got something done, but in Diablo 3 I feel like I need to get my 5 stacks of valor and then stay in that game killing champs as long as possible to be efficient. Yes, i know the supposed reason for Neph Valor, but its silly and unnecessary. I know in my D2 games, I would always MF lvl 85 areas and look for unique monsters as they had the highest chance of dropping the TC87s/time in the game. Much better system, now I can leave the game whenever I want without feeling inefficeint.
Also, I can't travel from act to act in a game or set the max number of players in my public game???? I can't set a max number of players in my game?
Am I destined to become some old fogie playing the same game for 30 years? I'm 25, so I don't think it's that I can't adapt to a new game, I just think Diablo 2 is better. It has been frustrating to me that nobody has been able to make an arpg as good as Diablo 2 in 12 years. Sad.
This post has been made many times before, and if there are any other resonances it will yield that same banter as before. People like me will agree that Diablo 2 was much better, than a few other will come in and say diablo 3 is a great game. I do not see a Diablo 3 hanging around as long as Diablo 2 has, but I have moved on from diablo 2 and not looking back. Once I am finished with D3 which will be soon, I will start getting ready for Guildwars 2.
I want D3 to be good so badly but it just keeps on disappointing... I know I shouldn't be this invested in a video game but yeah. I won't go back to D2 though, I wanted something new but still kept what made D2 great...
Yeah D3 could've been so much better if they had kept more of what was good about D2 and even D1. There are certainly a lot of changes that I do like about D3, like the loot being your own (I felt shared loot in D2 discouraged MP)... but the actual system for drops was way better in D2. I do like that rares were made better, but ppl want to find good legendaries to feel pimped out... I don't feel very pimped in rares. It was also nice that magic items are also more useful if rolled with the right stats... but I think overall, D2 was much better. Granted, D2 was polished over 10 years and it wasn't really until 1.10 that I really started to enjoy it immensely (I'm sure some ppl would've enjoyed it more than me earlier though).
I actually think the balance between rares and uniques was pretty good in D2 (some runewords were a bit overpowered but in a fun way). Rare rings and amus with fcr, rare circlet with +2 skill and fcr, rare tri res boots, rare gloves with + skill and ias etc were some of the best items in the game. Also, rare weapons could theoretically be extremely good with fools mod, pretty much only loosing out to runewords such as Grief, but they were astronomically difficult to find.
For me D2 is much better. The uniques and sets are outright terrible in D3, there's no point to mfing for rares and hope you get the right stats. Or farm gold to buy items. Finding cool amazing items>buying rare bland boring items.
