    Any benchmarks for stats?

Working my way through act 2 on nm with my WD but i keep dying a lot when it comes to champions or uniques. Seems 3 or 4 hits and im down, im gonna guess this isnt normal. Since this is my first character in d3 im still learning, so i was wondering what is some good numbers to be shooting for with regards to dps, armor, and life? Is there a chart that benchmarks every class every 5 or 10 lvls? seems like that would be handy to see how far behind characters are on the curve.

Anyways here is where im at right now.

    dps 556
    armor 1132
    life 3974

    Re: Any benchmarks for stats?

for frame of reference my level 46 wizard who just cleared act 3 nm has:
    2000 dps
    11k life.
    forget the armor.

I have a slight advantage as this is my second walk thru and I saved wizard gear as I found it with my first walkthru so I am using slightly better gear than I probably would have purely with self found gear. However with the AH house you should be able to gear up faster and better. All depends on weather or not you choose to use the AH. Blizzard says it is not required.

    Re: Any benchmarks for stats?

What's the dps on the weapon itself? What can you buy for let's say 50k in the auction house? Don't hesitate to pay the buyout price on something if you can afford it instead of waiting for a day. There's probably a L30 weapon for sale which you can buy for a buyout price of much less than 50k, let's say 10-20k.

All you need in normal and nightmare are dps and bonuses to vit , the main stat and maybe fire res (although I for myself didn't take any care about it). Other bonuses are nice as well, of course. In hell mode, resists becomemore important, at least from act 3 on.

    Re: Any benchmarks for stats?

This is a question I'm having as well. For transparency's sake, I only played D2 for a little over a year (circa 2008) and only played one class (Summoning Necro) so I'm by no means hardcore (Skin of the Vipermagi and Lore and Bone Runewords were my claims to fame). In any event, my extremely dedicated friends told me I would be smart if I started farming at NM Mephisto and then NM Baal then Hell Mephisto then Hell Pindleskin. Their belief was that if I didn't do that I would be undergeared and wouldn't survive the coming battles.

(FWIW, I was able to get to Hell Mephisto before running into too many troubles w/o farming, all those Skellies and Revives and an Clay Golem did just fine imo)

So moving on to D3 I'm battling NM Belial with a lvl 44 DH using a 55 DPS Bow (+75 Str, Dex, Vit) and running approx. 8k health. I survived the battle and decided to do some gambling...sorry crafting with all my stored mats and the first two HXB I craft are 100 DPS!!!

So naturally I'm stoked but then I started thinking should I approach this like I was told to approach D2? Should I go back and farm Belial for stuff? Maybe Kulle? I haven't been having any real difficulties progressing thus I'm going to push on through NM until I'm unable to progress and since I'm playing SC so dying is of no consequence to me but I just started wondering...any insights would be appreciated.

(Oh and fyi...no AH for me. I confess that I used it at the beginning of NM and the 50 1HXB I bought was replaced in the next champion back by the Bow I rocked straight through Act 2. I'll stick to an old school Diablo feel and I absolutely love crafting and would farm mats to craft for friends if they would stop playing WoW long enough to get back on D3.)

    Re: Any benchmarks for stats?

ive been looking around to find answers to such question, but atm there seems to be no straightforward answer.

The good part is that theres quite a few ways to make it to inferno, the bad part is that the answer always "depends"..

The best ive found so far is:

    10 strength = 1 resistance to all = 10 armor

    10 int = 1 resistance to all

We all need to absorp some damage to survive , ei we all need some armor and and some resistance.
If i absorb 50% from armor and 50% from resistance im absorping a total of 75%
I will trade according to the formular to keep the same total dmg absorption if i gain other bonuses this way

How much def u need depends on how much u get hit.
My personal guideline is this (im only writing the chars i feel i knowsomething about but I would use the same guideline for all chars):

    defence:
Wizzard (dps kiting build - dont get hit often) = minimum of 75% absorp (50% + 50%)
    Barb (tank build - gets hit a lot) = minimum/acceptable of 80-90% absorp (65-70 % + 65-70 %)

Damage is harder to put numbers on, but u need to kill the bosspacks. Imo the only good test is to find a bosspack w at least two of the following abilities: Extra health, Horde, Shielding .. If u can kill such a bosspack before they enrage ur on the money w ur damage. If not, then ur dps is too low. Whatch their healt to see how much dps is still needed.

Some stats/mods can exchange each other, like armor/res exchanged for life leach (eg : if u get 100 life on hit and u hit 1.5 times per sec u can afford to take 150 damage per sec without loosing life as long as you are hitting something)
A wizard can exchange armor/res for the use of energy shield w force armor rune, and so on.

Lots of builds & combinations are still being tested and blizzards still patching, buffing and nerfing.. The game is imo still somewhat in a learning by doing phase.

    Re: Any benchmarks for stats?

I think you must have made a mistake when writing your damage numbers. 55.000 dps seems like a lot for a lvl 44 char.
The best weapon dmg ive seen is about 2k (and these weapons have been sold on ah for like 250mil gold / on rmah for like 200usd)
Im presuming the crafted 100.000 dmg HXB is a typing error

Yes u would be correct they are typing errors on the weapon DPS...should say 55 DPS/8k health and 100 DPS for the HXBs. Sorry will go back and edit for clarity.

    Re: Any benchmarks for stats?

So I have been moving slow with my wizard and replaying some areas and taking my time, goofing off and what not. So Just as an FYI.

I bought a new weapon on the AH just to fool around with something new.
Just killed diablo on NM with my brother, it was hard with mostly self found gear and 2 ranged characters (he is a demon hunter)
    Level 53
    Damage = 5200
    life = 14k
    armor = 1200
resistances = ~95 but they vary slightly.
    some items of note:
I was still using level 23 pants, and 2 blue rings - level 30 ish, a level 30 hat, blue glove and blue bracers with 2 affixes each.
except for my wand (the legendary one from orpheous) all gear was self found, but mostly from a higher level character. (263 dps on wand)

    Re: Any benchmarks for stats?

PearlJamaholic, your dps is too low.

IMHO, for NM-ACT2, with a char whose lvl is in the range 35-40, the DPS should be near 1k (above is always better ofc).

    This can be modulated :
if you can tank (barb/monk), it could be (a bit) less.
if you cannot (wd/dh/wiz), it could not.

As I play HC I often die and so I often lvl new chars, I'll try to sort out a check table. Let me some time to do this.
