i would have really enjoyed a "no RMAH" server. of course that server would be loaded with people and bliz would lose out on money but still, wish we had one
If you cannot list gold lower than 2.50 of whatever currency per million but it is worth much less that doesn't mean people will buy it at 2.50 per million, it means that people will not buy it there and instead buy it elsewhere. Inflation is a problem to be sure, and it's what causes gold to devalue but you're mixing up cause and effect here.
And you're making the assumption that someone would turn to some shady-*** third party website based in china to do some convoluted ordering system that requires personal information, over a safe and secure payment/ordering method condoned by the company itself in order to, what, save a few cents?
Given that people do it all the time in various other games and here as well, yes. Those who want to buy gold will, and those that'd be discouraged by the notion of paying three times as much or more would choose to not buy at all, not to buy at the jacked up rates.
Sure the botters are a problem but they're doing it because there's money in it and there's money in it because people are buying. If people stopped buying, problem solved at its source.
You'll get no arguments about the system sucking. Just I lump charging more for gold than it is currently worth in the same group as stuff like cap the gold AH at (small amount). It just means people go elsewhere or not at all.
As for the botters, I believe Blizzard could stop them all today if they chose, but they profit from them so they do not make full use of Warden.
