So, I came to the realization last night about how much time I spend IDing rares I get that are below ilvl 60 (not to include jewelry), that are just absolute trash, 99.99% of the time. The excitement of the loot explosion from champ packs is saddening, when you get a pavade, and a death mace about 90 times out of 100. (Side note: I'm farming inferno act 2, with 89% unbuffed MF). It would be one thing if I could get inferno essence from them, but that's obviously not possible.
I'm finding myself just leaving those rares on the ground now, and not wasting my time with IDing them, unless I want to get a good laugh from A) how terrible the item is, or B) the actual name of the item (lots of nice funny potential here).
So, how do you guys handle those items, do you waste your time too? File this under "never gonna happen land", but wouldn't it be nice to be able to trade in 15-20 of those < 60 items to roll a chance at a 61-63 item?
Everytime I see balor anything in act3 I die a little inside. I usually ID and sell/vendor them since they still sell for a few hundred gold.
Depends.
I sold a ilvl 57 ammy for 500k.Some rings for 200k. But I id everything anyways.
Yeah, that's why I noted the jewelry caveat, because that stuff has potential, even at lower levels. My buddies and I don't even make trips back to town to sell any < ilvl 60 items, we just drop all of them out in the world, because (to me) it's not worth the trip back to sell the pieces. Of course, we've got a little more gold than the average bear too, so that could be some of it.
The absolute worst for me, is seeing a name you don't recognize or remember, (example from last night "Great Helm"). While part of me knew it should be "Archon Crown" or "Sovereign Helm", there's that other part that gets PUMPED for about 2 seconds until you realize, it's a lvl 52 req...
i id all yellow items 59 and under and sell to vendor. i usually take a quick glance at them to see if an alt could make use but 999 out of 1000 they are 100% junk
If you're not using the AH, the < ilvl 60 items are a good source of potential upgrades even in inferno. I've found some amazing mainstat/vit/AR pieces that I'll probably use throughout the later acts. But yeah, the vast majority of them are trash, which is one of the biggest problems with the current item system: items contribute too much to character power which, given the difficulty curve in inferno, leads to the vast majority of them simply being good enough to use. Then again, that might be a discussion best saved for another thread.
Yeah, I can relate to that. Usually it's some exotic item name that's difficult to remember, like Masakari or Solarius. In all honesty, I'm having trouble remembering many of the item names in D3 for some reason, so the situation you describe happens more often than I would like. I'm not sure whether it's due to the sheer amount of items, or simply because some of them sound so similar (Wristguards, Wristplates, Armwraps, Armbands, Warbands, Armguards, Armplates etc).
It depends on what sort of item it is.
Weapons scale so steeply it's 63 or GTFO.
Armor does not scale quite as steeply, lower level items are potentially acceptable.
Jewelry scales, but it seems fairly linear so you can get good non 63 jewelry or even sub 60 jewelry. These items are also rarest, so there's that.
Hm I had been thinking about this as well. I think from now on I'm just gonna leave anything thats not at least ilvl 60 (except jewellery) on the ground and keep moving. I find that I fill my inventory up way too fast if I pick everything up, especially on my A1 MF farmer. I think the time is better spent looking for the next elite pack... until they at least bring back a mass ID npc like deckard cain in D2.
