Kind of surprised there are no class specific forums here.
Edit: I didn't see them on the list... odd. Well, derp.
Edit2: Thanks, in the right place now.
That said...
I have a Monk. I want my Monk to handle Act3 Inferno. Getting res all and loh up to about 650 each was not good enough. So I tried switching the evasion mantra with hard target for the regen mantra with +20% res all, replaced fist of thunder/thunderclap with deadly reach/keen eye and the first time I tried it this elite pack stood right there on the stairs, refused to come down and did nothing but spam walls and desecrates for 5 minutes, constantly preventing me from even attempting to attack them. So... yeah.
Currently I have 6.1k armor (not counting deadly reach), 851 res all, 664 loh, 34.3k life, and 16.2k dps (I know it sucks, if I had the hundreds of millions for crit manip gear with stats and all res I wouldn't be posting this thread). Act1 was a total faceroll with lower stats, act2 wasn't that hard with lower stats, act3 is a full stop even after I made all these adjustments. It also doesn't matter that like just about every other Inferno character nearly every slot is used on a defensive skill. Deadly Reach/Keen Eye, Blinding Flash/Elites miss 60%, Breath of Heaven/Blazing Wrath, Sweeping Wind/10 second duration, Serenity/Ascension, and Mantra of Healing/Time of Need.
I know from an efficiency standpoint there's no reason to do anything other than faceroll act1 ad infintium but I'm being stubborn. If fixing this is a matter of a million or a few million, ok I guess, but if there's no way of managing it without nine figures or more forget it.

Go to bottom of the page and check out his 200k gear challenge.
I've seen that and while it was a nice read I'm pretty sure he got at least somewhat lucky with those items and more importantly his resists are a lot lower than mine. The problem is that I take too much damage from large packs or elites which is just about all of act 3. He might be able to manage with low numbers but I clearly cannot.
You don't need to go quite as low as him. My total gear set probably cost me around 30 mil, plus I'm using a few pieces I found, and I've been making progress in act 3. I need to add some more defensive stats though, I'm sitting at about 5.5k armor and 530 resist all, which is tough to get by on.
Keep pluggin away and you'll get there!
Well I'm running 1k all res, ~5.5k armor with enchantress buff only, 40k hp, about 1k LoH, 18.8k unbuffed dps and I do A3 just fine. The only exceptions are the really retarded bloated malachor or phasebeast packs. I'm still using thunderclap, and dodge mantra with backlash rune. Other skills that I use are; serenity (extra duration), blazing wrath, sweeping winds (blade storm) and blind (with dmg buff). So all I could really say is to keep trying to bump up your gear. It is still doable with your current gear, but it would require more effort than my gear level.
Hm. Your stats aren't that much higher than mine, it'd take one more resist item to equal yours. LoH being short is the real problem.
From what I've seen any even half decent weapon with a non trivial amount of LoH or a socket is super expensive. I got lucky and got a good one cheap but I doubt that will happen again.
For that matter the only reason I got this far is that half the good items I found were for Monks. I mean 30 mil... only way I could get that is selling stuff, and in my experience no one is buying.
The weapons are only expensive if you are looking for 900+ dps 1 handers. You can get pretty decent 800-850 dps 1-handers with a socket for around 1 mil. It will usually have other stats as well. I haven't actually checked the prices for a few days, but I can't imagine it being too different now... just depends on who has listed stuff and for what price. If you want natural LoH or crit dmg on top of the socket... yeah it might be more expensive. U can get by with just getting 2 fist weapons with a socket, and maybe dex or vit if u can find it... or LPSS. Then just socket the weapons with star amethysts.
Honestly, unless you're rich, I think dex and vit are not worth looking for on a weapon. Dex and vit are available on any equipment slot, but they'll cause a weapon with other useful mods to skyrocket in price. Meanwhile, those other useful mods (LoH, Life Steal, Crit Damage, a socket to increase LoH or Crit Damage) are FAR more useful than the dex/vit and aren't readily available for most other equipment slots.
Well that's true, except that I've already lost a fair bit of Dex getting all res and arcane res.
As an experiment...
Let's say I want a ring with the following:
100+ Dex.
75+ Vit.
60+ Res all.
Arcane resist.
Bonus armor.
What would that cost?
