Whenever i consider new possible builds, it all boils down to how well it can standup against certain boss modifiers, that I consider as a high threat to my squishy wizard. Perhaps we could share strategies, maybe somone does something I'd never thought of, something that everyone could benefit of.
I'll start listing the killer modifiers for me:
Vortex: Almost always a huge threat due to the potential of nasty combos that it can be paired with. As for now, I just insta teleport out of range. But eventually if the gear allows it some distant future, Vortex can actually work to your advantage. By this I mean that ok, you will get pulled, but as you do make sure the mob takes more damage than you do off the encounter. Make sure you can sustain the damage obviously, and then GTFO. Sort of guerilla warfare
. 1 way of doing this for instance: 1. Cast Diamond Skin(Diamond Shards or Mirror Skin) mid air. 2. Cast meteor on yourself. 3. Pull a Explosive blast preferable with chain reaction. 4. GTFO(preferable when Diamon Shards bursts if used). This eats a big chunk of the given mobs HP and if pulled off sucessfully you can kite/heal do your stuff until the next vortex. Also all steps are optional, the point is to use the vortex against the monster. And its kinda fun
Fast: I dread this as a Wizard. My first death in inferno was given credit to a fast scavenger pack with molten/mortar/something other nasty. I couldnt outrun them. Kiting failed and I died. I realize that cold spells is effective here but what if you dont use cold spells in your build? Does anyone have any tips on how to fight fast without the use of cold spells? Is there no way around? (30% slow skills doesnt work against these in inferno).
Teleport: Monsters with fast attack speed will eventually sneak in a hit if youre not fast enough to GTFO. Combined with say horde and Illusionist they can make a quick process of you, unless you run the crit build with infinite diamond skins/teleports. Any advice welcomed.
Mortar: Equals kite to me. Unless its a ranged mob, then I stay in the dead zone dodging the ranged attacks while counter attacking. Mortar is not impossible to fight, its just damn annoying. Any great counters welcomed.
As for the rest, yes they can be troublesome, annoying, and evil in combo with anything of the above, but in general I consider them fair to dodge/deal with.
Feel free to post your own challenges as well as strategies or counters
Now that I'm a melee wizard, I'm happy with vortex so long as they aren't fire chains or molten. If they are, I just try to frost nova lock them so much that they can't vortex me. When I was blizz/hydra I pretty much did as you do, I teleported out. Thanks to illusionist being able to teleport out when you get vortexed is usually not to big of a deal.
Mirror Image - Duplicates + Illusionist. Every time you get hit, just poop out a fresh set of duplicates. You need to be able to withstand a hit or two, but the duplicates will really cut down on the amount of damage you're taking.Fast: I dread this as a Wizard. See fast, as the solution is the same - duplicate spam.Teleport: Monsters with fast attack speed will eventually sneak in a hit if youre not fast enough to GTFO. If it is out in the open I like to circle kite, as dodging mortars with lateral movement is more reliable than running away. But either way, once you get the hang of it, avoiding mortars isn't that hard - as long as you have enough ehp to take a hit or two so you don't have to be perfect with it.Mortar: Equals kite to me. Unless its a ranged mob, then I stay in the dead zone dodging the ranged attacks while counter attacking. Mortar is not impossible to fight, its just damn annoying. Any great counters welcomed.
Thanks for the input. I'll definetly test mirror image and circle kiting
