I did try Threatening shout but was totally dissapointed for it. It works only once per mob, so you just cannot kite all mobs and do shout each time cd is off. 15% chance is like 1 out of 7 times mob can drop a gold and maybe small chance of item (dont remember did I get any, but did only few runs). Pretty much similar than when chacing goblin and having it dropping gold/items, but only with 15% chance each hit.
So for eg if you have 20 mobs around you, chances are that you get like 1 gold pile per shout or none. It is really that bad but I don't have data or details would it work better with higher gold/magic find stats.
All though I agree some what with your assessment I am still interested in ways of optimizing this type of build. My clear time is actually a bit faster because of increased run speed from several sources and I have around 220% gf and 150% mf. I can't survive good enough in act2 with the gear I have on.
So a couple of questions more:
1. Does gold drop more often in Act 2+ and in bigger piles then Act1?
2. Can one generate items by hitting a boss like the Butcher? Can't really find any info on this but I guess it's not possible on act bosses?
While the gear isnt as good, bumping gold find up to 350+ before NV and running Hell Act 1 has produced for me (DH) around 220-250K per hour. You obviously don't die and the repair costs are negligible. I know that might hurt some peoples pride to GF in hell but the profits wont. And although you arent likely to find any rares that you can use, there are often drops that are good for gold on the AH. I have made several million since release doing mid-level item sales since thats where many casual players are.
I tried using some of my GF outfit on inferno and had about 100 gf and it simply wasnt worth the time/trouble/repairs. If I can get more rich (did i say that right) i will begin to assemble a MF/survival outfit but that will cost me greatly.
