I then head back to act2 and farm some basically free gold and money and then go back to act3 rinse repeat. This is the exact thing I did before I got to 2 was farm act1 and then progress through act2 rinse repeat. I personally see it as working as intended since I am not truely geared enough to kill without consequence in act3 so I pay the price and farm act2 while venturing in act3 after every upgrade purchased or found.

The sad or funny thing depending on your point of view is the items that I have sold for the most have come from act1 so there is a lot of money to be made from there. Casual or not you are all in the same boat as everyone else. Trust me as a person who has cleared act3 the loot is not really that much better and I have finished many a run and gotten all yellows below ilvl60. So contrary to what you seem to have built up in your head the roads are not paved with gold in act3. That shipped sailed months ago where the very 1st people in the later acts sold everything in the AH instantly. The rest of us are doing it the normal way. Now whether you enjoy it or not is another story. I personally like progressing and making things work and forcing myself to only dual wield as a barb when I know if I added a shield I could do fine but that is not how I want to play. So I make it work and if I can do it I truely believe anyone can do it.

So I will reiterate what many people have said here the repairs costs are not that bad.
I guess I stand corrected. I honestly didn't think anyone trying to progress in the game (e.g., beat inferno) would like high repair costs unless they were already geared enough to make death not a frequent occurrence in Acts 3/4.

Maybe I'm just too casual for inferno? Back in the day when I could spend hours playing on a daily basis, I could probably do what you describe and enjoy it. As it is, when I only have a couple of hours at a time to play, I'd rather spend that time trying to beat the game than farming easy content.

I think I would just prefer a different mechanic to promote better gearing. Either make the mobs difficult (which they seem to be already), or make it so you can't skip everything and go straight to the boss (I think this was why repair costs were increased in the first place), or buff bosses (which it seems they already did with the enrage business). It seems like these are better ways to promote people to "Gear up" than taking away gold.

It's weird but repair costs just seem like a very un-fun way to promote farming. I prefer the carrot to the stick.

It is un-fun. Why play a game that frustrates you more than it gives you enjoyment?

Rose: You're an alien? You sound like you're from the North.
Doctor: LOTS of planets have a North!!!
