When I first came onto dii.net almost a decade ago to get input on game play and to horse trade, I was a pretty good player. Loved playing barbs, and WW was the build of the day. But time changes us all, and since I have peripheral neuropathy rought on by diabetes and find I no longer have the finger dexterity that I once did. It lead to me forfeiting my DPS warrior spot in the WoW progression guild I was in, so when D3 came out there was great joy in my heart- mindless killing is back!
Well, not so much. . I like a specific play style- I lobe the dual wielding in-your-face blood and guts high DPS barb, like leveling a cannon and just going for it.
But...you get hit, and hit hard in inferno. I learned this walking in Act I inferno, attempting my hand at a WW barb. IU got killed, many many times. I also learned that at this point in time a WW barb is probably not for me. Great build, but costly for me. So I used hell to develop a build based on revenge. Easy to use, almost mindless button mashing.
TL;DR version to this point: looking for an easy to use workable inferno build due to physical disability. Here is what I got
I have made it through to the Skeleton King without a single death, but I know I have early in the game and I have a lot to learn. I am not a min/max stat guy so I am coming here for consultation.
First, the build:
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculato...aac!ZYV!cccYab
The gist of this build is simple. Keep War Cry and Battle Rage up to burn through whites. When encountering an elite pack, pop WotB. With the Thrive on Chaos rune, simultaneously (and mindlessly, I might add) mash Battle Rage and Revenge triggering them every chance you get. While WotB is up, battle rage is extremely important becasue you are almost always on full fury with this build. Battle rage clears 20 rage out of your globe (while at the same time having a chance to generate 15 fury with critical hits) , so you can utilize Thrive on Chaos. With this (and the initial 50 fury spent to pop WotB) it keeps WotB up long enough to off the entire pack. In hell, I always popped WotB on the last phase of the Diablo fight, and it never expired. I was able to keep it up during the entire Inferno Skelton King fight as well.
In synergy with the concept is damage, so crit chance is important. It is also a must for the " into the fray rune" which generates 15 of the 25 fury you need to keep WotB up that much longer. With the "Vengeance is Mine" rune you also generate an addition 5 fury, not to mention 3 from each Frenzy hit.
Last slot is up to you, but is reserve for you favorite "get out of jail free" ability. I like Ignore pain/Ignorance is bliss. It fill you globe up quickly, with all the damage you do. Some will choose leap for movement, but then you lose WotB becasue you are no longer generating fury.
I may need to find another Fury spender for the post WotB pop though. It may strengthen the build. Also, is fury generation is not an issue (must maintain 25/sec).
So, thoughts? Is it completely unworkable?
Good to see that you came up with this build on your own! I think it's very similar to what a lot of Barbs are running, though many of them use Whirlwind with the Blood Funnel rune for fury spending and generation, and stack a ton of crit chance. I've never tried the build myself, though.
I would swap out Frenzy's Maniac rune for Side Arm since you would be constantly burning fury to keep WotB Thrive on Chaos up.
I've thought of trying something similar since i'm not a huge fan of the WW builds, every time I try them I do great until I hit a pack with Shielding or Invulnerable Minion. I love this type of build because of the Leap or Ignore Pain to help you stand in and burn stuff down.
Everytime I pop WotB I go right for the boss in pack(if it has one), so shielding minions are not a huge concern.
One thnk though, I may swap out the "Tough as Nails" passive for "Superstition" to help mitigate the elemental damage. Right now, my all res is at the 630 min stat point, so until I get better items I may need to do this.
(BTW, running an enchantress for the armor buff)
As far as stats go, I am looking at the following when gearing:
Stregnth
All res
Life on Hit
CTC
IAS
CHD
Also, of lesser consideration is:
vita
life%
"has sockets"
Basically, I use vita and life% to keep heath at a minimum of 35K. If I cross 40K it means I can boost other damage based stats by sacrificing some life.
Currently I am at 800 life on hit. very handy for maintaining health.
Last, when buying a belt I am making sure it has the bonus skill: Frenzy since 90% of you damage is dealt through Frenzy (. I am not sure how this will work for boosint damage, but the belts can have up to a 14% boost. Can anyone statistically inclined comment of this?
The frenzy bonus on belts - of course it's pretty good, but it tends to make the belt a lot more expensive. Besides, revenge is actually a huge source of damage, too. I would take it, if I found it at a good price, but I wouldn't require it.
For my barbarian, a 10% increase in damage is equal to 3169 dps, which again is equal to about 130 strength. Now consider that frenzy is only part of your damage output, and it starts to seem a little underwhelming.
I would always use Revenge/Provocation over Vengeance is Mine. You'll deal a lot more damage, and the chance that revenge wont trigger when you really need it is smaller.
Supsertition vs Tough as Nails; best way to decide is to observe what kills you. I find physical hits to be the most dangerous, so superstition would do little for me, but maybe it's different with your setup.
Increasing your health and life% is probably the easiest way to increase your effective health points. That said, low hp and high resistances and armor is definitely a valid strategy. 35k sounds a little low to me, though. Perhaps try to go up to 45k?
I thought you had to spend your fury for Thrive on Chaos to work (as in, the duration isn't extended if you gain more fury while at full fury). But I might be mistaken. Have you tried Insanity?
Something to consider- but I did find one at a good price. I'll post stats when I get home a I am at work.
Well, STR is a priority to stack anyway due to the efficieny it gives in stat itemization. I look at this as even further efficiency.
A great point. I need to balance how often I trigger it with the insta-fury gain. If I pop it and hit 4 enemies, I am immediately gaining 80% of the fury I need to keep WotB/ToC up.
Yeah, been running superstition a bit more it seems.
I may need to in later acts, for sure. I just need to progress in my gear grind.
ToC: Every 25 fury gained while WoTB is active adds 1 second to the duration. This is the issue, I may need more fury spenders in order to work as all I have is battle Rage. Ideallly, something to replace ignore pain as my "SHTF" button.

Thanks for posting this. I'm not disabled but I'm darn lazy and I like spamming![]()
I'll try this.
Maybe you could try a spin on the build, if you swap out thrive on chaos for insanity
you get 3 pretty heavy boosts as you do not need fury regen:
- the 100% extra damage from insanity, of course
- battle rage/into the fray to battle rage/marauder's rage
- revenge/vengeance is mine to revenge/provocation
On a generic 2 hander or dual wield barb with average gear dps goes
from unbuffed 40-50K to roughly 150K when everything is popped.
If you are using a shield then shame on you for not getting the biggest axe you can find
and being the bearded terminator the barbarian is meant to be
It will fare a bit better against whites and usually gives enough punch to wipe out elites
3 times over in the duration if you can tank them ( and you can tank better with 30% revenge ).
The problem usually lies in dying right after ignore pain runs out, not berserk expiring
so even leap/iron impact could be considered instead of battle rage.
While berserk gives some very nice bonuses, imho the best thing about it is still insanity.
Thrive on chaos is just the one rune that's goes great with the high crit/blood funnel WW style as that
one needs the high fury regen, too.
Tried the OP's built for a few hours. Seems that mighty weapon + weapon mastery is sufficient fury generation (using Frenzy + sidearm). But fury dumping is a problem and battle rage is not enough.
Tried a couple variations, liked this the best. http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculato...aac!ZYV!cccccb
Dread bomb will help you tear through whites with a full bulb and also give you easy fury dumping during champ fights. Basically you are spamming frenzy and dread bomb at the same time while WOTB is up. Try it!
