    Question Battletag system NUMBER

How does it work, if you have a number after your name? For example, if battle.net gives you a BattleTag: Freeman#2854,does it have to mean that there are 2854 people in the world, that chose the same nickname before you? Or is this number more or less random? Thank you.

    Re: Battletag system

Everyone has a number besides their name, the naming convention for Battle.Tags are [BTagNameYouChose]#[Number].
The number is random (at the BattleTAG creation, it doesn't change). This way, it allows people to pick any name they want, because they do not need to be unique, the number makes it unique. So when you want to add a friend, you need to tell him Freeman#2854.

Yes, the number technically makes it unique (for a computer), but also makes it lame for people. But at least in games you don't see the number (correct?), which should be the point. What happens if two players with the same names meet in the same game? They start seeing their numbers besides their names? The game has to somehow differentiate them, right?
