You're reading it wrong:

1.0.4 on it's way (as planned and read somewhere last week so I expect or at least hope within the next 2-3 weeks)
1.1 in development (and I think I remember seeing an estimate of fall this year somewhere but that might have changed)
New system for progression after that.

About 1.1, which is the PvP patch, I heard its not going to be around this year, and when even blizzard say its still "a ways out" it certainly means it will take a long time and they said that pretty much only AFTER this patch that they will begin development on that so yes, it doesnt seem more like any new system regarding this issue wont be on this year, not once he assured that its not that far, we are on july, if it was on this year he would state that its not THAT far, its not the case on this wording, I dont even get a "soon" vibe from it.

They will be making PvP like a half a year and i will lol hard if all we get will be simple 4v4 deathmatch and that's it. Somehow i feel that will be the case lol.

Item grind would be a good enough end game, but they managed to screw even that. D2 had a grind towards lvl 99, and a bunch of very interesting uniques, not only high level ones, but also the lower lvl ones.

I stopped playing D3 because there is nothing to play for, the drop rate is abysmal, and even when something does drop, in 99% cases it's vendor thrash. I've never seen set item, jeweler plan and only got one blacksmith plan. And that's after almost 200h with the game.

Also, getting 1-shotted as a tank barb doesn't help much.

I dont think most ARPG-fans want raids or e-sport PvP endgame. They want item, level or skill grind. That you can do solo...

Some regulars here must be looking sour after saying that diablo 3 has a decent/good end game.
A blue post claiming there is very little. Hm.
