Re: How to make life steal viable

Does anyone know of table with/that has LoH coefficients for the all the skills? For some skills LoH is awesome. For others you are checking your paper doll to see if your LoH items are still equipped.

For my Monk I started acquiring LoH items due to the success I had with LoH with my stun-gernades/caltrops Demon Hunter. However, I soon discovered LoH on my Monk was not as effective and I switched to Life on Spirit Spent. Unfortunately, while getting LoH gear for my Monk I also got LoH gear for my Wizard, which was even a worse mistake than on my Monk. LoH on my Wizard is even worse than my Monk and I don't have the resources at the moment to regear my Wizard to life-regen.

Anyway, back to my question, now that I know about LoH coefficients, does anyone know of a nice table? I don't have gold resources to fix further mistakes.

Last night, a DarkBlade dropped with about 3% lifesteal (2.90% to be exact) and about 600~dmg. I'm currently DWing on my Monk: a Mace with 870~ dmg + Sword with 860~ dmg both with 400~ LoH. Here's a fact for all the Lifesteal haters. The 3% LifeSteal Dagger, actually provided a lot more sustenance then my 800dps~ 400LoH~ mace, Obviously, We must take into consideration the vast difference in iAS; but nevertheless, The Cylones that procced off crit were healing me for no less than 2k Health/Sec. That's because LS takes into consideration ALL DMG upon Output (All AoE). I'm not saying, Dump LoH for LS, not at all, But What I am saying is that, LS is just as valuable as LoH and in many situation i.e., Clearing packs in Act3 Inferno; A lot better. So coupling both stats would be ideal for Act 4 Farming (If you ever cared to do so).

Key Points of LS vs LoH

LoH Can't heal you through AoE (Fact) - LS Can, and with xxxx Digits on a constant basis
LS Won't heal as much on a single target than LoH (Debatable by proof figures and also dependent on stats i.e., DPS)

All in all, No more bashing LS please =\,,, The perfect Weap isn't just LoH, CritDMG, Socket; it would also require LS. And like Blizz said, they tested LS with Higher end gear, so in the end, I see LS become a lot more valuable than LoH. The tables will soon start turning if they haven't already done so.

Source- [35k DPS Monk DW-Farming Act 3 like a boss (Alternating between a 600DPS Dagger with 2.90% LS and a 800~ DPS Mace with 400~LoH)]
excuse me sir maybe you should make better research before you start bashing my bashing.

FOT thunderclap returns 75% of loh for the maintarget and 75% for every additional target hit by the AOE effect. vs 3 targets and 500 LOH thats a total of 4125 Health for one full cycle ( 3 stages) of Thunderclap.

to reach the same Heal for a single cycle (3 stages again VS 3 targets) of Thunderclap and 3% Lifeleach i'd need to deal 708050 dmg
that means that i'd need to have an average damage of 81,8k PER STRIKE

that means that my dps would be @ 98,16K (1,2 base ats) for a mace and 122K for a dagger (1,5 base ats). (I wont take +IAS into account even though you can get a greater benefit from it with less budget than LL ever could). even self-buffed this is quite an astronimical amount of DPS.

and that is only for a comparison with 500 LOH however i can get ~350 LOH per ring 959 LOH per Weapon (+ up to 600 for a socket ) and ~600 LOH for an Amulett
that being said i think that my assessment is quite accurate. even if you take Sweeping wind into account and the situation in which it shines ; it would have been overheal anyway. no one cares if you spawned 70 tornadoes in Arreatcrater vs hundreds of Scorpions.

the real challange are champions / rars and they come in predictable quantities of 3-6.

so yeah that being said you'd still need an tremendous sustained dps to even compare with minor amounts of LOH ; but in these reaches no one really cares. because the dps is really high and the fights really short.
people care about surviving when they have only 15-25 k dps and fights take an considerable amount of time. and for that LOH is cheaper more effective and more accessible.

so yeah maybe LS is not completely useless but it would still be pretty much the last Affix I'd be looking for on a Weapon.

The coefficients are in the sticky at the top of the forum.

I picked up a weapon with both loh and leech and I absolutely love it. I notice a considerable increase in healing when I have sweeping wind up especially. Currently looking to get leech on my second weapon as well right now.

I agree that it is not a substitute for loh, but it's still a good stat.

Does the LL makes up for the extra damage you receive from electrified mobs ? I found that vs electrified/illusionist I survive more without sweeping wind on (800 res all). Also, life leech+LoH should be very expensive I guess.

I haven't had a problem with electrified on act 3, so if say it must. It would suck to drop sweeping wind for illusionists as they go down quickly with it on.

It can be pretty pricey. I got a really good deal on my dagger that has 650 loh, life leech, and an open socket. I wish I could pick up another just like it.

Ok, thanks. I am just trying to see what to aim for. I currently have a 700+ dps fist weapon with LoH but not LL and no socket. I guess it's all about going to appropriate price tag, although I tend to see less alternatives at the moment. What price are we talking about here ? 15M, 30M ?

sorry but ... saying that 3% ll makes up for electrified champions is just bs as a statement... i mean we dont know kestegs DPS Mitigation and other HP sustaining attributes ... and neither do we know yours ...

i mean i have seen everything on hear concerning stats ranging from 500-1000 AR 4000-10000 Armor ~2000 dex / passives (evasion) shield ? blockchance ?

with all these combined factors your effective mitigation can vary by over 1000% and yet you could still be able to beat A1 inferno. i would just refrain from making such broad and bold statements and just look at the math behind it ...

That dagger I listed has 720 DPS and also 50 dex/vit and I got it for 6m. It's probably worth at least twice that though.

All I can say is that I notice a large survivability difference if I forget to get sweeping wind (tornadoes) up now that I have leech. Sweeping wind does not offer any defensive help, so I know it's just the leech I gain. I was getting almost killed by 5 white goats without it when I can normally stand for in a mob of 20 of them. And this is act 3 inferno btw. And I never have had trouble with electrified mobs unless they have other really nasty mods of course.

I'm not a huge numbers guy, sorry.

I suppose that my question should have been far more specific or otherwise phrased. Point taken. Thanks.

Re: How to make life steal viable

So, Life steal, as far as I understood, will work on sweeping wind... does it work with cyclones generated by cyclone rune as well?
    Does LS work with backslash?
Does LS work with mantra of retribution?
Does LS work with Mystic Ally? Specially the air one.
Trying here to figure out possible builds based on this...
