    Two Whirlwind Questions

WW: Deliver multiple attacks to everything in your path for 110% weapon damage.
Hurricane rune: Allows you to move at your movement speed while using Whirlwind.
Volcanic Eruption: Turns Whirlwind into a torrent of magma that inflicts 143% weapon damage as Fire.

Question 1: If you have 12% movement speed boots, does the Hurricane rune mean that your attack speed for WW is increased by 12%?

Question 2: If yes, is the extra 12% attack speed more worth it than the extra 33% damage from Volcanic Eruption?

Simply, no . Hurricane allows you to MOVE at your regular movement speed not have some sort of attack speed based on your movement speed, I'm afraid.

IT's very useful when combined with Sprint + Wind, otherwise I wouldn't see much use with it. Without the rune however it is quite hard to get those nados off.

    Re: Two Whirlwind Questions

I tried Volcanic Eruption and after Hurricane it was tough getting used to the speed; I felt like I was spinning in slow motion. As previously mentioned you spawn far fewer sprint tornadoes which are your main source of rage and provide a significant source of damage. I also notice I take take a lot less damage when I use Hurricane because if you spin by slow hitting mobs quickly you sometimes don't trigger their attack animation (not to mention juking arcane beams).

If you can get it to work great, but I personally wasn't a fan of any of the other runes.

Volcanic eruption is best rune if you are trying to build actual whirlwind barb, not sprint/tornado, because in that build whirlwind is just for movement, tornados deal much more damage (and I bet it will get nerfed to the ground very soon).

Whirlwind is a very significant source of damage in the WW (Hurricane) + Sprint (Run Like the Wind) build. They both prop up each other.

I also sincerely hope that Blizzard is about done nerfing builds and is starting to look towards improving real build diversity by buffing the weak stuff. The WW + Sprint build is the kind of mature, cohesive build that I expected Diablo 3 to have more of. It requires some fairly expensive, moderately (crit% focused) to extremely (mighty weapon for generator-less builds) specific gear to make it work, a fair effort beyond the simple tanking barb, blizzard + venom hydra kiting wizard, HA + BL 2h crossbow DH, etc.

    Re: Two Whirlwind Questions

whirlwind hurricane - 110% weapon damage, two 55% weapon damage hits per attack speed
tornados from sprint - 60% weapon damage, hit multiple times that is increased by attack speed, for one sprint cast can spawn up to 5-6 depending on movement speed, they take weapon damage from only main hand (unlike whirlwind that alternates), which allows you to use it with very weak dps, good stats offhand, they also proc crit/loh better than whirlwind (not to mention you stack multiple tornados, and even 1 is already better than 1 ww)

Theory is one thing, but do a simple test. Take youre ww/sprint barbarian, and try to play without sprint. Build with tornado can clear FAST act 3 in 4 player game, but without tornados it becomes slow and weak in single player.
And then try just use sprint without whirlwind, and you notice that this is already much better than whirlwind alone.
It is a fact, sprint is multiple times better than whirlwind for killing stuff, and it is overpowered.
They only real use for whirlwind is allow movement, not get blocked by enemies, also spawn tornados closer to each other, which isnt possible to do by running. But the damage done by whirlwind, compared to all these stacked tornados is just few % of total dps on screen you are dealing.

    Re: Two Whirlwind Questions

And yet for all of that, there is a significant increase in kill speed when you have tornados on a mob and the fury to continually whirlwind the same mob. Tornados aren't precision damage; you have only so much control over where they appear and they can only spawn so close together. On the other hand, you know exactly what you are damaging with whirlwind (barring desynchronization with the server). Whirlwind is almost the same damage as two tornados that you can aim precisely.

Your test is not a test; you can't use the build without the fury from sprint just like you also can't lay tornados very effectively without whirlwind or some similar skill. I do spend time with only tornados available because I don't have a spammable fury generator (I use Overpower). Fury management requires that I stop whirlwinding to rebuild fury. During this period, the damage I deal drops dramatically. I've spent many hours observing this in effect.

The way you word things makes me doubt I'll convince you, but maybe other people reading this won't be mislead to believe that whirlwind's damage is insignificant.
