Hi,
I have finally been able to get my hands on some gold, 1,6 mill to be exact, and I'd like to spend it on damage, seeing that my wizard spends to much time kiting. This is the hardest decision I have had on the AH so far. I can't decide on a weapon. My current weapon is a 997 dps staff with 347 vit, so my health is massive. If i change my weapon to one without vit it goes from about 50k health to about half. I die quite a bit in act 2 with 50k, so I I'm pretty worried about changing my weapon to a say, 1300k dmg no vit weapon.
These are my stats:
18,7k damage
4k armour
300 + res all
almost 400 physical res
and I'm doing a pretty standard bliz/hydra
So what do you guys recommend that I spend and look for in a weapon? Plain high damage, a bit lower with vit or int, or an even lower with vit and int?
What I'm considering at the moment is in the 1300k dmg range with about 150 vit, costing around 1 mill.
Thanks!
GOd, I would love to have your current weapon. How much would you be willing to sell that weapon for? I probably don't have enough for it though.
Actually, I doubt you could sell it to me anyway since I'm from US and you're from Norway.
Uhg, as blizz/hydra a 2h is of little benefit, and it makes your casting so slow. Hydra benefits from attack speed so there's no reason not to use a nice wand + source combo. Sure blizzard will do a little less damage, but blizzard damage is balls anyway, it is just a spammable snare.
Given your budget, I quickly searched the AH and came up with this:
Mainhand - 1.45 million
Ferocious Desolator Wand of Death
945 DPS 1.4 speed
+10 arcane power
Offhand - 100k
Glorious Demi-lich of valor
106-331 damage
79 int
175 vit
And done.
I think you can do better for 1.45mil, mostly by looking for high crit damage weapons with less DPS that will result in more DPS in the end. Of course, that highly depends on your current crit chance.
Crit damage has gotten quite expensive of late. Crit damage (or a socket) and good damage means you're looking for a rare, too. You'll be lucky to get a wand with good crit damage (or a socket and a good green gem) in the range of ~800 dps for 1.45 mil. Now, if you are stacked with crit chance, that weapon may actually be better, but what's the likelihood that a guy at the OP's gear level (and who plays blizz/hydra) is stacked with crit chance?
750 dps can be pretty good too if the crit damage (and your crit) is high enough. You have to do the math and see how things work out with your gear and then decide. Whether the OP is (or will be) stacked with crit chance is up to him. Unless you're trying to gear up your entire character in under 1 mil, I don't think having low crit chance is good idea in terms of maximizing damage per cost.
In the end, though, we can discuss all day long which way is the cheapest to gear, but in the end the cheapest way to gear is finding the best deals you can find on the AH, and those deals can be any kind of item really - It's all up to what stupid/lazy people put up for too cheap the minute before you performed your search. If you want to find the best deals, you have to search for all options (crit, no crit, int, no int, etc) to increase your chances of finding one that gives good damage for its cost.
twas just yesterday that i bought:
weapon
776 dps
144 int
48 vit
64 crit dmg
= $800,000
source
78-228 dmg
+9 arcane on crit
+112 vit
= $80,000
Had to scour though.
For a Blizzard/Hydra build, is a slow 2H now considered inferior to a 1H + Source? I was under the impression that the damage was based off the of the damage range of the weapon, therefore a slow 2H was optimal.
The blizzard damage scales that way but blizzard is a small percentage of your damage. Hydra is the real hard hitter and hydra scales with attack speed. It doesn't actually cast more as most spells do that scale with AS, but it does do more damage when AS is added.
