i've always been searching for new pairs of boots with at least 12% move speed, but what's everyone's opinion on this? i feel like i'm the only one that cares about the move speed..
You're not the only one. If you're kiting (which you probably are) move speed is mandatory. There's no other stat more important on the boot slot. I'm using cheap crafted set boots "sage's seekers" with int, mf, and a trash stat as the random attributes. They cost me 500k.
I always search only for boots with 12% movespeed.
It is not as valuable as I would expect though, I guess a lot of people don't care.
It is valuable, but only if it is paired with good other mods. Move speed can take a 5 mil pair of boots to being worth 50 mil instead, but it can't make worthless boots good.
A lot of set/legendary boots also have movespeed as a guaranteed affix, so they don't have to roll it as a random affix. As such there's no scarcity, no scarcity = no price hike.
I usually set my criteria to 11%, I used to run (pun) with 10% but I don't notice a difference between that and 12. you don't want to miss out on a good deal!
Also it's not just for kiting, it's for the time it takes to get anywhere! Between your stash and tp, vendors, just running around the map, etc.
Its a shame that boots are the only item type to have the attribute, it basically makes any boot without it far inferior regardless of other stats, at least on characters that have no skill/passive that increases speed. Dont see why they couldnt have kept the cap at 25% and have it spawn on other items at a low value (say 6% max). Would mean you could use boots without the affix and still not feel like youre in treacle.
You can get move speed on non-boot legendaries, but most of them are garbage. A few aren't though. Inna's pants can be good if they roll int or res all as their random attribute. Bonus points because you can't normally get crit chance on pants, either.
I have found some really awesome boots, but with no movement speed. I had to keep one pair of them just because the resist all and Int was so high that i might use them. This is the case 99.9% of the time with rares. I really hate making trade offs, once I get used to a big radius and big health globe bonus, I don't like giving it up. One thing I really liked about uniques in D2 was you knew what you were getting most of the time. Even a low MF pair of War Travelers was great for a MF character. But, movement speed is a must as I kite most of the time laying down Hydra/Blizz and trying to keep something between me and the monsters. I am yet to start using Teleport, so I try to run out of walls, which I do good until I get a Waller that puts up the 3-sided walls I can't get out of.
Eventually while movement speed is very good, for the same price you can get much higher stats if you forget about the movement speed. It can be a really tough choice. I do lean towards movement speed boots, but if I look for boots upgrade I often check ones without movement speed but much higher stats in case I find an amazing pair.
A great boots is something that SHOULD have at least 10 run speed.
I consider boots without +run speed basically useless and unappealing XD
