I think I've decided on this:

I might swap big stinker for something more in line with the kiting though, maybe confuse or horrify. I haven't decided yet. I suppose if I do that I'd probably swap bad medicine for pierce the veil or something.
About to try butcher, is 2k damage enough to beat the enrage with dps pretty much just being from splinters?
Well yeah but haunt doesn't add much dps on single target fights.
I was worried about the enrage so I went bears for the fight, worked out fine. Back to locust/haunt/splinters now in a2.

I finished act 3 hell, and hit level 60. I Tried out the burning locusts but found myself going OOM a lot more, so I switched back to mana locusts. With mana locusts I can cast it, and then spam haunt as my mana fills from the locust jumps. I tweaked the build slightly as the gargantuan started dying too much, so now I'm using hedge magic:

I'm pretty happy with this build now, and I imagine I'll carry it through into inferno.
What kind of stats should I be looking for before I start inferno? I was thinking ~40k hp, ~400 res all, ~15k damage? I'm currently at 40k hp, 110 res all (from int), and 11k damage.
Stuck my head into inferno, cleared up to old tristram, but was afraid to enter the cellar to Adria's hut, as you get locked in there until you kill the named guy, and I'm afraid of anything I can't retreat from.
I'm now at 40k hp, 110 resist all, 2.2k armor, 14k damage. I feel squishy just working the trash in inferno. I got used to playing my wizard with energy shield, the much lower armor value on my witch doctor makes the same amount of hp/resists feel far less sufficient.
Im quite suprised how different the WD builds in this thread are, especially those that dont rely on VQ/Bears. Here's the build that I used to get to lvl 50 with very little trouble before I let my WD die due to overconfidence and undergearing:

What I dont get is how no one in this thread is using Soul Harvest at all? If I get 5 stacks from popping it, my dps goes through the roof, Im not sure about specifics, but its somewhere in the range of +50% dmg.
I love Soul Harvest, but it's a pre-Hell skill, IMO. VQ builds can use it, but getting up close to a3-a4 Hell monsters is not how I want to play. Also, you need more and more defensive/mobility skills in Hell and Inferno, so SH is tough to carry. Great skill though, free resist all and massive damage increase with 5 stacks.
I'm weary enough about getting close enough to use locust swarm, you have to get even closer if you want soul harvest to hit 5 guys. I'd love the extra damage, but I love being alive more.
I've been doing a little farming in a1 inferno and I end up blowing spirit walk practically every time I want to put locusts up.
