This is my problem. Just going with the flow of D3 requires a different mindset than D2. You have to want and embrace the idea that gold (or $ and rmah) is the most significant part of this game and items are secondary. Then, you have to embrace that you will not have a choice what zone in the game you play if you want to have a chance for found upgrades. Or you can abandon the idea of found upgrades all together to open up actual options if you are willing to back-track difficulties to open up all zones for gold farming.

Why does every option have hugely negative consequences?

I want to play within the game's framework. I want to attempt to enjoy the game as designed. I'll admit that I'm guilty in regards to wanting to keep up with the Jones's. I'm guilty of being envious of the AH barons while still being hard-headed about playing the game that way because it's not fun for me. When so many (speaking in an absolute sense, not a % one) have cleared Inferno, I feel that I should be there too. I feel that I should be able to get there without exploits or spending 90% of my time in the AH instead of the game world. If you accuse those who are there of winning that way, they scream foul, so I am supposed to believe it is possible to get there already with found drops, right?

When a game forces me into these kind of undesirable choices, how am I supposed to feel?

I don't complain about the game difficulty directly. I like a game that requires skill. I don't feel that an ARPG really requires skill. I don't believe D3 does either. The difficulty is in gear scaling. So if the item supply does not keep pace with the pace of progress in the game, you get brick-walled. Right now, there is a massive gap after 60.

I'm sure that gap is by design. They wanted everyone to get to 60 relatively easily and then start a long item hunt to slowly progress through Inferno. I question that design paradigm in the first place for an ARPG (this isn't WoW), but let's ignore that. Would it be possible to enjoy the game anyways under that model? Quite possibly. However, to enjoy that model, I have to feel that the playing field is at least somewhat even. It's not. The exploit/bot/RMAH heroes have already destroyed that curve. Now they can benefit and be the AH barons as the only ones with access to that aspect of the game.

I do sympathize with the frustration of listening to a lot of threads full of whining. I like to think I am not whining but am actually posting constructive feedback. I don't have all the answers I'd like to, but I'm not being paid to spend 8 hours a day thinking of solutions. I don't have the resources and statistics that the designers do. What I can see is that finding appropriate drops will make getting through Inferno without massive reliance on the AH take so long that I will be one of the last ones there and likely years from now for just 13 slots. That's not fun knowing that I am handicapping myself massively for playing the way I like, which is IN the game world. I can see that there are two basic methods of fixing the balance between playing the AH and playing the game as far as progression. You either modify drops or you reduce the gear curve (call it difficulty if you want but I don't like that because difficult should be beatable with skill and this is not that).
I’ve posted before that I am not asking for a full iLvl 63 set within weeks of release. I’m not expecting god mode yet. But there should be a natural gear progression.

    If surviving requires:
    Act 1
    Good Stat +1
    Good Stat2 +1
    Good Stat3 +1
    Good Stat4 +1
    Act 2
    Good Stat +2
    Good Stat2 +2
    Good Stat3 +2
    Good Stat4 +2
    Etc
And all I get is one of the millions of these variants
    Good Stat -3
    Bad Stat +4
    Bad Stat -1
    Good Stat +1
    Or even
    Good Stat +1
    Good Stat -2
    Good Stat +1
    Good Stat -3
What are you really supposed to do? I’m not asking for all Good Stat +4 or +10 or whatever. I just need functional gear and have never seen it except at the AH.

    **EDIT**
By now, ~180 hours on my wizard and I think ~90 on barb, I should have upgraded at least ONE slot, right? Never seen a correctly itemized piece in game. 100% honest about that.

I agree for 100% with the article. I'm on the verge of dumping this game for good.

Well, first they will never completely take over because PC gaming and mobile gaming are very different experiences, and second I do hope they will take over because that means PC games will be less dumbed down (by trying to cater to the "average" gamer) than they are now.

I would have to find another Jay quote where he basically called diablo fans dumb/wrong with out saying those words. It went something like "people are remembering things about diablo 2 that never exist." I think as playesr who still popped on the game for a play through, and many of use spent a huge chunk of our life on that game, could remember clearly.
Or maybe he's just more aware of the reality of the human experience where we actually make up about one third of our memories...

I'm sorry to keep repeating my own and others' arguments, but I just don't buy the elite packs being too difficult and repairs rates too high.

I make an average of 300k gold per hour farming A1 Inferno, and pay perhaps 5k (post nerf) as repairs during this time. This is 35-40 elite packs. This is Hardcore.
Of course you're not going to find repair rates high, since most of the repair expenses in SC come from dying!
