In an attempt to actually quantify how the average price of items is dropping, I took a survey of items available at the AH based on 3 stats. Intelligence, Vitality and Resist All. As all 3 stats are desirable, I am going to take a survey of the auction house and see what is the best possible item I can buy (Intelligence > Vitality > Resist All). There are probably a lot of ways you would do this, but I hope this will show how the prices of items is varying over time.
Best item available for $125k or under (must have 5 items available in total)
(As of June 24th @ 6:35 PM EST)

I don't know if tracking the price of low end items is going to reflect the big of the market, but good luck. We'll see.
Good work!Right now, less than 1 million gold would purchase this gear.
Is the 125K Buyout price?
These are all buyout prices, I didn't consider any of the auction prices as it is difficult to determine the actual sale price.
I don't imagine this will relate to the general market. My main goal was to try and determine what the minimum "decent" item looks like in order to see how to market is moving over time. It has been said the value of rares is going down, so I'm trying to see at what rate this is occuring.
The "high-value" market would be much more difficult to track.
Buyout prices are usually overpriced anyway. If they weren't, they would have been sold out anyway. This is really "quick tip #1" for anyone starting to seriously use the AH...
The only sure way to tell whether there is someone willing to pay a certain price is to see him bid or buyout an item at said price. Seeing an item with less than 1d11h left almost guarantees that nobody or at least that almost nobody is willing to pay the listed price.
Made an update based on today's (June 29th) information. Generally prices have shifted downward with the price points for the same gear going down.
