LoH does not work with hydra, and while it works with blizzard, it has a really really bad coefficient, so it isn't at all worth it. Life regen is simply better for most wizard builds. Life on hit can be good critical mass builds, but other than that, meh.

Storm armor/scramble is an interesting suggestion, thanks. I will test it out and see how it goes. I doubt the 25% speed boost will allow me to go over the cap though, and I already have 18% move.
It is indeed ironic that having higher defenses can actually reduce your survivability in certain situations due to illusionist failing to proc. In general though, I find higher defenses to be worth it, although I still die on occasion in A1 when I do something stupid.
Electrocute/Chain Lightning has a 17% chance to proc LOH, and 17%*6 = 102%, so on average one of my electrocutes will heal me if I have LOH gear on assuming there are at least 6 mobs. Of course that's rarely the case when facing champions/elites, but from what I've observed, it does make a noticeable difference in A2. It also helps that my LOH items reduce my DPS by about 20%, so I don't kill myself quite so quickly.
Thanks, I was confused about the proc coefficients. I got this mixed up with critical mass. Just so I understand it correctly, the proc coefficient on spells apply a % to LOH, in other words, for electrocute every mob I hit gives me back 17% of my LOH, so if I have 1000 LOH I get 170 hp back per attack per mob. But for critical mass, there's only a 17% chance per critical hit to proc that passivse. Is this correct?
I think storm armor/scramble can be good for those with lowish movespeed but excellent defense, but I don't find it very useful since I already have 18% speed. I prefer to use Prismatic Armor, because unless I do something really stupid, I can't die in A1. So I can farm it while watching something on my laptop for instance. Can't do that for A2 yet.
