Can't get Diablo 2 to launch after installing game and 1.13 patch. Screen goes black

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anybody could help me. I recently got Diablo 2 LOD and tried to install just D2 not the expansion cd onto my computer. The install went great but then the game wouldn't open. I found a patch downloaded and ran the patch and it brought me to a screen asking about video resolutions and such. It had auto selected one for me so I just hit "ok" and then the screen goes completely black. I can move my mouse and see the pointer moving but nothing else happens. Its just black. I have to then force quit my computer as I cannot even use my command Q to quit the game. All of my computer software is updated I just cant get it to work. I downloaded the patch from battle.net and for a second it looked like it would work but then it brings me to the video page. Here are my questions:

1. Has this happened to anybody else?
2. Do I have to install the expansion set first for the regular D2 to work on my mac or can I only install the original game and then install the expansion at a later time?
3. What am I doing wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Search the D2 folder for the "D2VideoTst" then choose DirectDraw as your option. I think that would help, but do let me know how it turns out.

Are you running Win7?

I'm not running windows 7. I have a mac. I'm not a computer person so please be patient with me when it comes to technical questions. I tried to search for D2VideoTst in my D2 folders but I couldn't find it. There is just technical writing when I open the folders.

Any other advice?
