Red face The Tragedy of Crafting 60 Crossbows with 6 Properties

Thanks to qinsoon for letting us know the lowdown of weapon crafting.

Since he made a profit from the 10 weapons he crafted for the first time, he spent 15,000,000 gold in crafting 60 crossbows with 6 properties which caused the tragedy.

Let’s analyze why it’s a tragedy with the following data.

    1. DPS of Weapon

You may earn money from item crafting but never weapon crafting, because DPS determines everything.

Crossbow with 6 properties (the plan is: Exalted Grand Doomcaster) has 424.1 basic damage. The DPS of the weapons is as follows:

One crossbow with 800+ DPS, one with 900+ DPS, most weapons DPS are between 600 and 700.

    2. Properties
    Classify the weapon affixes into:

Max damage, minimum damage, element damage (including all element damage and physical damage bonus like xxx-xxx), dexterity (deleted from the table accidentally), intelligence, strength, damage enhance (+xx%), attack speed, critical hit, socket, life on hit, life on kill, damage to life, cc (including freeze, knock back, blind etc), bleed, skill and indescribable.

These affixes can be stacked (one affix appears twice). In the following table, I still count once.

    3. Properties which influence DPS

Properties which can influence DPS are element damage, damage enhance and attack speed.

Element damage’s appear chance is high. The damage is between 100 and 300. Damage enhance and attack speed’s appear chance is low (around 1/3).

Since 60 is a small sample number, there’s no law in distribution.

Appear times of element damage, damage enhance and attack speed:

PS: attack speed <15% equals to 0 in the above table.

    Conclusion:

    1. In the 60 weapons, most weapons DPS are between 600 and 700. Only one with 800 DPS and one with 900 DPS. One can get almost nothing from this.

2.The chance to craft legendary weapon is too low. Element damage appearing rate is high. However, high element damage appearing rate is low (3 400 DPS weapon, 0 500 DPS weapon). Damage enhance and attack speed’s appear rates are low (around 30%).

Be cautious if you want to craft good weapons or even earn money buy crafting weapons. From the above analysis, it’s really difficult to get legendary weapons. It’s more reliable to buy them from the Auction House.

Is it possible to obtain a Legendary item by crafting via a rare BS Plan ? Or you mean Legendary as in 'very good' ? I never got into crafting except equipping a new character, and even then you might be better off running another char on easier content at NV5+MF or AH all the way like you say. Why is this post in D3 beta forum btw ?

Moved this to the theory forum. It was stuck in the old beta forum for some reason.
