where are you guys getting your gold????? Are barbs good at gold farming?

Just to reasure you, I have been farming act 1 inferno from the first week the game was out, then farmed act 2 inferno for another week and now farming act 3 & pony lvl. I have not "abused" any chest runs and goblin runs first cause i didnt know these at that time and also cause i consider that its stupidly boring.

So I have found several items after 300+ hours on my character. I have sold several items on the AH for over a million, max was 4.5m. In my total 300+ hours I have less than 6million gathered from in-game gold and I estimate around 20-25 million from the AH. Of course I spend everything on buying good items for loads of gold on the AH.

My top farming spots are/were:
Full act 1
End of act 2 (the 3 portals before Kulle and fighting Kulle)
The Keep in act 3
End of act 3 (areas before the Sin Heart and the spider queen and azmodan)
Pony level

My gold find has varried from 50% to 150% and magic find from 110% to 240% in standard gear. (usually upgades nerfed my MF & GF cause i went for more stats and damage)

The problem with the current state of the game is that you need to farm areas without having proper gear in order to obtain optimal gear for that area. Therefore this makes the game totally boring and forces you to buy gear from AH, or from RMAH, thus making blizzard's goal a reality (forced to buy stuff on AH to continue). With my friend we had a terribly hard time in Act 2 a few weeks ago, since we didnt have millions to boost ourselves by buying stuff on AH for crazy prices, so with alot of patience and skills we managed. Hopefully patch v1.0.3 will come out soon and the "beta" we are currently playing will come to an end. The new loot system looks promising and normal.

Buy low/sell high.

Started with 200k and am now sitting on 75$, a barbarian and demonhunter inferno complete gear.

It's getting way more difficult to find low priced items and sell them high though...

AH and now RMAH. Case in point, I missed out on a 19% 150str String for THREE DOLLARS today.

It is pretty **** that the best way to make gold in this game was to A) exploit to get to late game before anyone else, and B) flip items on the auction house.

I agree people flipping items is annoying but i'd still rather have the AH then not. I used to hate trading in game in D2, it was a waste of time and energy. I always traded through the forums here, but even that was a pain because of muling and storage issues.

I have flipped a few items myself, but I've made maybe 1m gold doing that in a total of 3 weeks. I don't go out of my way to do it, but if I see an item up for cheap when i'm searching for gear for me I grab it.

I feel your pain OP. Being melee in Inferno is just gimped at the moment. It takes ALOT better gear for us to progress than the range classes.

I've been farming actI&II inferno and I've been getting crappy drops. I know the drop system is random but when you don't get any good drops, your not going to making any decent money.

btw, I hate working the AH.

I don't go out of my way to play the AH, but you can come across some good opportunities to make easy money while just browsing. Yesterday, i found an 810dps 1h mace socketed with a Star Emerald listed for 800k. The gem itself sells for 700k! I bought the mace, removed the gem, sold the gem and the mace for 700k each, and cleared about 400k in 5 minutes.

Certainly not the best score, but just an example of a recent one.

I've done that act1 guy over and over for hours with 196%gf, 215%mf and get maybe 60k-100k per hour, not more.
Anything over that is a lie or a few lucky item finds. I don't think I've found more than 3 items in act1 inferno that sold for more than 100k.

Instead I cornder the market and play the ah, that made me 50k the first day, over a mil the second day but now I'm bored with diablo3, right now I just sit and stare at the character screen and just can't bother to do anything. Boring *** game.

One thing I forgot to mention earlier is I vendor all my blues and crappy rares. Selling the blues and rares boosts gold a lot. Does anybody salvage them? I don't see the point since i'm willing to use the AH.

I salvage level 60 stuff for mats. Exquisite Essences are worth more than the items vendor for. I also have the 6 affix bracer recipe, so i roll those every once in a while too.
