Nice character, excellent work! I second the video request.
My understanding of dual wield and shapeshift was that with normal attack, your character would alternate which weapon it attacked with. So unless you have 2 100% ias runics... This knowledge is based on wolfbarbs, where they can use feral rage. But when you get manaburned, you would start hitting with the off hand weapon. Lance Guard ended up solving that problem.
Wow! you for sure did your share of 1.07 runs...some insane gear and a wonderful character, for whom your great writeup seems more than fitting
Eager to read about your 4fpa bearsin! Never made beast myself, so no clue what kind of characters to build with it (although a high IAS bear-sorc with lightning and fire charms and enchant seems tempting...what's the highest fpa you can get with a bear sorc?)
Thanks again!
@nulio: I did finally see a +40 max one after many many near misses, but that one is still in 1.07 for me. I've seen a couple of other +40 max ones mentioned on the forums.
@frozzen: Indeed, durability is a steady issue, about the same as a physical damage zealot. In other words, about as bad as that old cow cartoon where the pally whacks the cow and then goes to beg money from the necro for repairs... Usually I pick up enough staffmod items to sell to fund the durability loss, but with an inventory mostly filled with charms I gave up with her and mostly muled on gold from time to time. I still picked up staffmod items to check for good combos but generally tossed them back to the ground instead of selling...
I think even a second fast claw would have the same problem, unless it is also a 100WIAS claw in a runic talon base. I'll try with two 100WIAS runic talons as an experiment when I get her sorted out again as I do have some other 3-socket ones without the Soldier's prefix and I may try to socket some more in the beta. A shield would also solve the inadvertent pickup problem (as would /nopickup, which I should have done but I've never actually used that...) but my understanding is that blocking in bear form is dreadful.
I'm working on the writeup for the 4fpa one and there are some nice crafted 1.07 claws there that I'll list. Big damage, big leech, ctc Amp, Quickness-- but not all on the same claw! I did many many crafts though and indeed ingredients are a pain in 1.07.
@maxicek:
I'm not sure about the LCS listing for damage being correct. I didn't agonize about optimizing charms since the going was quick and smooth with that setup, which was basically take good 1.07 max damage charms that I've already moved forward to 1.13 and use them.
AR is indeed low, so that was one reason that the Inner Sight merc was retained instead of switching to the standard walking aura merc.
Video will be hard- I'm currently only able to run Diablo under an emulated ancient W2K machine under VirtualBox in OSX and anytime I make a change, it seems to break that machine so I don't want to touch it. I do remember seeing some video of the fast bearasin slap some years ago during the 2fpa/3fpa debate.
Wouldn't you gain more from blessed aim than you would from inner sight lowering enemy defense? I thought I had read about that somewhere, but maybe that's more against some specific targets like Baal.
@grisu: I don't think the FPA gets as high, I think 5fpa with a fast phase blade may be the best. I may look into that more at some point.
@pharphis: Possibly, but one nice thing about the Inner Sight is that it continues working even if the merc dies. Setting off Amp at a distance and not dying were two important reasons for the A1 merc choice, as well as variety. Again, I didn't really optimize or need to in this case! My 4fpa one used a HF merc with Reapers, much more standard.
Due to a bug, Barbarian or Assassin Werebears equipping two weapons while using Normal Attack will only actually attack with the primary weapon, even though an attack animation will be displayed for attacks with both weapons. This means that even when the secondary weapon matches the attack rate of the primary, attack rate is effectively halved (so maximum 3 frame attack rate would effectively become 6 frames, at best).
How many did you find in total? ^^
I'm currently running trav looking for charms and hoping for runes also, goal is barb reach 90+. LK gets on my nerves quickly.
Only found a 35 one in NM while killing Diablo in MP. Rest was from trades or give-aways.
@onderduiker: thanks so much for the info! As always, your technical knowledge is fantastic and it's always great to hear definitive explanations!
@nulio: I played 1.07 for more than two years, much more than I had intended and got some 99ers there, running cows at /players 8 by self-MPing. I got a pretty decent range of charms from that. I don't remember ilvls in 1.07 at the moment- those don't look like cow charms to me, I think cow charms were ilvl 90. Those may be LK or council charms mostly, I though time-wise those were pretty good for charms and jewels. I did a lot of LK and Nihi racking runs, and on the LK rack runs sometimes after racking I hunted for gems, runes, charms etc. Charms weren't a main goal of my 1.07 effort but they ended up turning out well, accumulating very slowly though.
