What classes/builds are viable upto and including Act 1 Inferno?

My level 60 monk just died in late hell due to my own lack of concentration but I was starting to struggle at that point in any case. From reading various HC posts, it seems that almost everyone surviving/thriving in act1 Inferno is a barb.

Is this the case or can other classes thrive in act1 Inferno?

to anwer your question every class can handle a1 inferno solo. (with dh having most problems). A2 is different story tho and i can't comment on it since i haven't progressed to a3 yet. But as a wizard i think it's really hard, dh is even harder.

I think that all of the classes except for DH are doing quite well.

DH is just bad class for Hardcore due to it's design. You have no defensive passives that would boost your survivability and the class design is more Softcorish than Hardcorish if you know what I mean.

I am fully confident inferno is defeatable with a monk.

No other class can stack resistances like monk. 1600+ is obtainable for sure. With enough life on hit, you can drop transcendance and go with sieze initiative, which will increase armor significantly. Also, near death experience is amazing. On death, knocks all surrounding enemies back, and you have 35% hp and spirit, can pop a potion, go immune, and run for your little life to recharge cooldowns and evade whatever "killed" you.

    Few questions:

    1. Why Transcendence? I thought the healing effect was not very good and in any case I mostly use spirit generating attacks as my main attack and not spirit using, which are mostly saved for situational use. Am I missing something here?

    2. By immunity, do you mean use Serenity?

    3. Near death has a knock back?

    1. Transcendence is kind of bad, but you need some regen untill you get LoH/life regen.

    2. probably

    3. no.

So I was getting ready to make a post asking what I was doing wrong in attempting to find item upgrades in a1 inferno as DH. Typed it up, found it was a bit too whiny for my tastes, and went to go read other stuff.

Looks like I found what I was doing wrong :(
