Congrats, nice sale there.
I'm planning a post on drop/crafting rates so I will leave some of the other questions un-addressed for the time being.
Crafting and JCing is a gold sink/Mats sink. It is a gamble as with any other crafting recipe. The 6 affix situation is the most ideal because on ilvl 63 rares you might only get 4 rolls on it. So with all things even rolling a 62 ilvl with guaranteed 6 props is a better chance at something you want or can sell. Either way it is a crap shoot and all RNG.
Only wish the game would be kind to me and drop me even ONE 6 prop pattern. Again RNG.
I found this pattern about a week and a half ago and decided to keep it rather than sell it for 19mil (price at the time). In my experience, 90-95% of the gloves that you craft will be garbage that you either just salvage for more mats or possibly sell on the AH for ~100k. However, when you do roll good gloves, they tend to be worth quite a lot of gold.
So far I've crafted 2 pairs of gloves that sold for 10 million each, a couple that sold for 5 million, and another decent pair that sold for 3 million. In addition to that, the best pair sold on the RMAH for 55 bucks. I haven't kept track of the total number that i crafted, but I'm fairly certain that it's under 100.
I think I'm pretty close to breaking even already in terms of gold despite sending the proceeds from the best pair to my Paypal. Whether this is normal or if i have just gotten very lucky, i can't say.
I found the plan for 6-property boots about two weeks ago and I have netted about 4 million so far from about 30 to 40 crafts. 30to 40 crafts is really not very many, but I don't have much play time or gold so it works out pretty well. As I don't play a lot I can afford to clog up my auction house with lots of 100-200k pairs of boots for two days as well as making a couple of million on the few nice pairs. So far I haven't made a full return on the initial value as I could have sold the plan for over 6 million, but I will be able to continue crafting boots as long as they sell.
The thing is, crafting it for yourself is a HUGE risk. The reason it costs so much is not because people are crafting it themselves, but because there are streamers that are buying it so that they can provide a service to people. Why streamers? Because only then can there be confirmation that the person crafting isn't giving the client some crappier gloves that they crafted before. A non-streamer will never be able to justify this and so, will never be able to provide a service to a mass of people, unless they're all stupid.
The only way you will be able to make money by using the recipe yourself is if you roll a VERY nice glove, or if you stream and provide a service. Otherwise, sell it.
Seems to me that it would be more profitable to sell the recipe and use the 10-15 million flipping items on ah
