    Can't seem to sell on GAH; Opinions please?

    I have a problem with AH that I finally just have to ask here to get some opinions. My problem is simple; items just don't sell. Worse is that some don't even sell when I reduce the price.

    First problem is that I do a search for an item, and I see maybe the best bargain it will cost me 250k. So after a while I go to upgrade, this time I sell that item asking 200k, and never sells. So basically whatever item I buy it seems that I am pretty much stuck with it. No fun paying 500k for armor that you can't re-sell.

    Not online to look at specifics, so these numbers are just an example. I have some gloves with 120 Dex, 85 Vit, 35 All resists, 15 Gold, something else. I do a search and set the parameters to be 110 Dex, 70 Vit, 20 res to see what is out there. Now the bottom price to purchase is maybe 350k, and the stats overall are lower. But I still put these gloves up for example at 300k. They don't sell. Again this just an example, don't pay attention to the specific stats.

    Now things got weird for a brief time. I had some items I thought were junkier and could not sell those for say 5k. I re-list and they sell for 20k~30k. Does this make any sense? For a while rares that just had the primary stats I tried to dump off for cheap. Now on AH I have stuff just like this selling guide here suggests, e.g. item for Wizard that has high Int, Vit, All resists, + another stat or two.

    I think the one problem is I really do not have an idea on what the actual selling prices are. To use those gloves for example, maybe the bottom price I see is 350k, but none sell for that. Maybe the real price value is 100k, and I do not see those come up because they sell too quickly to come up in the search? I don't know, what I do know is this is frustrating. What I do know is if I go to buy item A. I have to pay X gold, but if I want to sell item A, I can not get X or close. Worse is they do not even sell. I paid a lot for a Wizard source that had high damage, Int, 15 Max Arcane, socket, and Vit/Life%, to buy one now will cost around X, and I can not sell my old ones for even 1/3 the price right now.

    Time of Day, Time of Week.

    To me, peak prices occur at around 5pm-9pm EST, Wed-Fri, and are dead by midnight Sunday.
    I haven't been thoroughly or scientifically tracking time though, but from mild observation I find it to be somewhat consistent.
    I prefer to hold into gear I gather late in the day, early in the week.

    Auction Bots are snapping up good deals fast and replacing them with cutthroat ones.

    Re: Can't seem to sell on GAH; Opinions please?

    Items decrease in value over time, especially middling items, for obvious reasons. And couple this with the fact that until the recent limit implementation, a lot of people spent their time gold farming the dank cellar instead of producing items. Basically the market is flooded with mediocre items, and no one wants to spend their gold on a half-way upgrade. So if an item has a lasting niche it will go for 100k or more...but anything that is just a meh Act1 inferno item won't be sold for more than 5-20k.

    Buying something for 250k, and then expecting to be able to sell it later on for 200k is just not reasonable.

    Another thing i have noticed is that mediocre items get lost in the flood. If you purposely look for a middling item you will be flooded with more than 50 pages of stuff, and if you to sort by increasing buyout you will have 50 pages of no buyout auctions before even getting to the low buyout auctions. the thing with the high end items is that once you start filtering out the 60 dex 60 vit 60 int whatevers and start looking for 120+ the field gets smaller and easier to browse through. If they went and added a range for the stat you are looking at it might help whittle down the number but I still find it hard to sell decentish upgrades, and unless they sell in the first hour they tend to not go at all in my experience.

    Milene made a great point that the market is flooded with yellow after yellow and unless someone wants to sort through it all... which can be tedious. there are the three filters but that's not enough. so, hopefully, when the AH gets a bit of an overhaul items will become easier to sell or at least easier to sort through all the junk yellows.

    Re: Can't seem to sell on GAH; Opinions please?

    Honestly, when I buy something on AH I don't expect to sell it back, unless:

    - I got a 50k item for 5k and will sell it for 30k just to get rid of it.
    - I find 10k stuff (happens a lot with lvl 40 ish bracers/shoulders/etc.) and I'm willing to burn them for 5k/7k.

    Every time I tried to do something reasonable (buy the item for real price and sell it back for a price 10% lower or higher, i.e.), it doesn't work.

    I never bought anything for more than 100k (a blue bow that makes me happy on inferno), but if I did, I would be sure it's something good enough for other chars (ex.: 1 handed swords > wands/monk fists), something like a chest armor with +int, +vit, 3 sock, res all 70+, + stuff (I could drop the "+int" just be under the kk value).

    To avoid the N/A, I do the following (mostly on weekends):

    - Search for godly stuff and see the dps/armor;
    - Set a low buyout price (like 10-50k) and 1-2 mods (not stuff like "+vit & +int", sockets that you can easily spot hovering your cursor over items, etc.);
    - Filter by DPS/Armor;
    - If something really insane whatever happens show up (like a 900 dps bow for less than 50k) with 1d11h-1d12h to end, I just buyout without looking (the risk is worthy);
    - If nothing shows up, I raise the value by 10k...

    Time and date are also a factor.

    Normally I can find stuff there

    Re: Can't seem to sell on GAH; Opinions please?

    My own experience (mostly relating to BaronScarpia's post) is that of selling every old item I have for a higher value than the upgrades I got.
    Clearly this can't be done with all the items, but specifically with weapons I always find a great deal (say, 500k for a 900dps 1hander + attack speed) and then sell my old - decent - one for a bit more (say a 870dps 1h + attack speed for 650k).
    This is quite similar to flipping things, but you gain a bit less since you're using the cheap priced items yourself and selling your old ones at a decent or a bit high value.

    Clearly this is harder to do with low quality items, such as leveling gear that is less than perfect, or any gear with low main stats or no +resist.

    If I buy an upgrade I expect my old item to sell for at least as much as the upgrade is, the maximum "price" I'm willing to pay for a decent upgrade is the 15% cut of the AH if I can't possibly sell my old one for more than the new.

    Again - this is only doable past a certain gear level.
