I think my DPS is rubbish. The best ceremonial blade I can find is 49 (socketed with a +11-22 ruby), and my Mojo gives +6-13.

Do I just have garbage equipment? Or are my expectations unrealistic?

You don't have to use a ceremonial blade you know..

They are amongst the lowest dps 1-handers around and the only real reason to use one is mana regeneration or +mana which are exclusive.

I have a ~42 Witch Doctor that has ~1650 dps.

Your gear or buid is garbage.
At lvl 42 my damage was 1.3K using a 107dps cerimonial. At 46 my damage is 2.3k with a 157 cerimonial... with soul harvest it goes over 3K
time to pay ah a visit? also look for proud ring/ammy of agony...those give a nice boost
