    Re: 2handed vs 1h +offhand DPS wise

For max damage output you want top of the range 1 hander and source, as that on paper seems to do more damage per cast then a 2 hander not counting the higher APS rate. (Note I say on paper as UI am not 100% sure that the data mined stuff I am using is correct also note this is a tip top wizard 1 hander and source damage wise).

    Re: 2handed vs 1h +offhand DPS wise

I switched from a 2H to a 1H+Source last night. I have a super godly 852 DPS, 1.71 speed dagger with a socket, and a decent 60-229 damage offhand. However, I feel like I lost so much DPS. How are these wizards getting up to 100k DPS with really fast stuff? +Attack Speed does almost nothing for my DPS at this point, because my weapon is already so fast, so what's the secret?

Well, for one 852 DPS is not super godly, it's basically mediocre by Inferno standards. Two, attack speed and crit chance/damage in any slots you can get your hands on.

Think of it this way - 40% chance to do +300% weapon damage is a 2.2x damage multiplier on top of your weapon damage and intelligence multiplier. Try to get 50%+ from your weapon, 70%+ from your weapon socket, 40%+ gloves/amulet, then 25%+ from rings.

Just keep in mind that the DPS from the LCS is not what you're getting from most of your skills. I cannot be more specific since there are lots of doubts concerning the constants for each spell and rune and still a lot of testing going on...

My recommendation: try low-end 2-handed axe (1 APS) and dagger+source (1.5 APS) to check how much damage your skills gain with the IAS. I've done some testing myself and I doubt 1h+source will outdamage 2h unless you have extraordinary on both weapon and source.

The worst that the character screen forces you to do is divide out the attack speed to get your average damage per hit if your casting is gated (kiting, cooldowns, AP).

Crits don't seem to aply the full value from the screen as well.

You sure? Weapons have pretty wide damage ranges, makes it hard to determine that sort of stuff.

I have not tested this enough yet, but some skills seem to have lower crit chances than the rest. I'll try to test this with a handful of skills and different crit chances to be sure

    Re: 2handed vs 1h +offhand DPS wise

Depends on what your skill preference is (or maybe base your skills on the weapon you use?). I currently use a 2H axe, 275int, 66% crit dmg, range of about 777-1162. (Not stellar but not weak). Because the axe is pretty slow and the base dmg is just so high, using disintegrate with that axe is awesome. I can hold the beam for quite a long time and it puts out some serious damage. Now, my signature spells come off kind of slow, but i don't use them that often. Typically its venom hydra and beam them til they're gone. Am heavily considering an even stronger 2h mace for longer beam duration that hits even harder.

If i was 1h/source, i would probably just use an entirely different attack skillset that flows well with a higher attack speed.

    Re: 2handed vs 1h +offhand DPS wise

Are you sure 1h+source gives more DPS for same price? I couldn't find an offhand that when added to a price of a main hand would beat out the best 2h weapon I could find on the ah at the same time for the same total price.

While I'm sure that with optimal stats (aka best possible weapon with best possible offhand) the 1h+offhand win, but I'm really not if for a given sum of gold (say something under 10 million) you can get more DPS with 1h+offhand than 2h or not.
