Is there any add-value to have any of these pets with you or give this skill a total miss?
I have try out the boar-rune but it pale against my Templar ability to attract the enemies to him.
Bat can be pretty useful in multiplayer games where you don't need that 6th skill for something defensive. The others I haven't found too useful.
am using BATs too.
Keep the regen up so you can spam alot more hatred then u can imagine.
I use the ferrets when I run Dank Cellar for gold----absolute laziness on my part.
I also use the ferret but the bat can be great depending on your build. I'm only in Hell with a DH (just started, I think) but I use the bat more than anything else.
I like ferrets, so the ferrets are cool, but they're really buggy. Lots of glitches with them (particularly pathing and movement speed).
Total miss. Almost like a joke/insult that it's in the game. You will notice that the DH has at least 1 more skill than every other class, this is why.
Ferret has extra gold find %, used to use it. Though Inferno intensity and NV preventing skill swaps, I don't use it anymore. Farmed me a lot of gold up until Inferno though.
Bat has it's uses but I tend to find the aggro the companions bring can be quite annoying. Haven't experimented much with the companions yet but I'd love to try.

For leveling up, I found the bat to be great. In the earlier difficulties, your problem is killing stuff faster (and survival in NM and early hell is often based on killing the monsters faster before they can become a threat). And the best way to kill stuff faster is to use up your hatred. IT works fairly well with multishot with the cheapness rune, and lets you spam orbs or chakrams more frequently.
I'm now doing some gold farming (sticking to NM right now because I can kill faster without having to worry about bosses), and so the ferret is pretty good. An extra 10% gold find isn't a lot, but it is helpful.
In later difficulties, though, the problem becomes more of one of survival and avoiding instant death. You spend more time running away and repositioning yourself more frequently in big battles, so you don't need as much hatred to spam. Thus, the bat becomes less useful.
I have no idea about any of the other companions: the spider, boar, and wolf don't seem to add anything. It would have been nice to have something like a valk, though.
