Hey, what's up!
I recently bought d3 at the release date and i really enjoy it, the problem is lot of ppl like one of my freinds complain that d2 is way better than d3. Now i want to make my own decision so i bought a d2 battlechest at a local store to try it out. Never really got into d2, when lod came out i had a necro but never got deeper into the game but for now i want to try it out. Could u guys give me some advices for new players, already bookmarked and reading the fishymancer guide right now. Which looks good for some mf runs to get hoard some gear up. The forum is really attractive to me and i will prob spend lot of time readin through it. Anyways i appreciate if u guys post some guides/tips to be successful at d2. Sry for the bad english, it isnt my native language. Peace out.
Welcome to the forums. Your English is very good. I could understand everything you wrote, no complaints. So do not worry.
Please read all the posted rules. Especially if you are playing SP and want to trade/MP with the Single Player Forum, SPF, they are pretty strict about where items come from and things like that.
As for advice we first need to know a few things. Are you playing soft core or hard core? The other questions are grouped with helpful hints. Did you get the latest Fishymancer guide from the previous thread?
Are you going to be playing Single Player or on b.net? If you are going to be playing Single Player I suggest going over to the SPF and find two great utilities, GoMule/ATMA and the RWM. GoMule/ATMA will allow you to trade with your SP characters without having to create a MP game and trade in game. The RWM enables you to create the ladder-only runewords that are disabled in SP for some reason. Any trouble installing either please post in the sticky. There is also the MP Forum of the SPF in which you can MP with others who play SP. One player hosts the game and the others join.
If you are playing on b.net I wish I had some sound advice, but I do not play on b.net, sorry. I hear there are a lot of adbots which spam the message screen so you might want to password protect your games so they cannot enter.
Again welcome and please enjoy your stay.
Thanks for that fast reply,
Yea thats the necro guide im reading right now and i might go straight hc because that guide/build seems pretty solid. Im not sure about b.net or sp, is there any difference between both except the ladder only runewords and how about the pvp in d2 is it viable ? I appreciate the tips for the muling this sounds really intresting. For now ill just read that guide and head to bed, pretty late here.
The fishymancer is pretty solid. I do not suggest getting over-confident and run in front of your army however. You are going to want to decide if you want to play HC soon before you invest too much into a character and items. Items cannot be transferred between HC and SC. If you decide to go HC read up on the max blocking versus max HP debate. I suggest you make up your own decision on that one. The good thing about 1.13 if you have updated to it is the ability to respec your skill and stat points once per difficulty. If you upgrade later the respec will not be there until you finish the quest on a different difficulty.
ATMA/GoMule and the RWM only work in SP. Be careful never to go onto b.net with the RWM active, blizzard might temp/perm ban your account and/or cd keys. The good thing about the RWM is that this is easy to keep from doing. If you need help understanding how to do this I will explain further.
I have no experience in PVP, but I suggest playing in SC if you want to PVP. In HC even if you die from another player you loose that character and its stash.
The main advantages I see for each in the debate between b.net and SP are as follows. (I'm sure there are more, but these are the ones I can think of, also these might be slightly slanted toward the SPF side, just saying
b.net
Ubers Quest (including Diablo Clone)
(Somewhat) Over powered charms from the above Ubers quest.
Saves are online so you do not have to worry about loosing them to HD failure and can play them from any computer without having to transfer them.
Each ladder reset everyone starts out with nothing if they want to play on the new ladder.
SP
Maps remain the same between games for the same character. The maps only change if you change difficulty or MP with someone. This is great for running Mephisto, Andariel and Baal.
Your saves are on your HD which means you can stop playing D2 and come back a long time later without fear of having them deleted by blizzard. Read about perming your characters and accounts to be safe if you play on b.net. The info should be on the screen when you create your account.
ATMA/GoMule allow for unlimited stash. In b.net you must create mule characters to hold excess item. Trading between characters on b.net can be difficult without someone to help (only use someone you trust)
No Ad-bots to worry about.
You can play on any patch you want and time-travel items forward to the current patch
A great community and tournaments held every now and then to keep the game fresh and new.
Edit: Sorry for the wall of text. Hope this helps.
