Diablo 3 - Solo Inferno Monk Build + Explanation of Effective health and Damage mitigation

[Low health + high resist + healing]

If you self heal 8000 health and I have 60% mitigation, monsters need to deal 20,000 damage to you to take that 8k away. Which is what makes self healing + high resistance so effective.

    Maths:
10,000 damage from monster minus 60% damage mitigation = 4,000 damage.
Therefore to do 8000 damage monsters need to deal 20,000.

This build is a balance between offence and defence and depending on rune choices you can tip the balance one way or the other.

I explain effective health and how damage mitigation works.

Honestly, I have a hard time thinking this build can beat champion packs in act 2 inferno and beyond with such low life. I understand your points but still, I have similar resistances than you, a bit lower armor due to dual wielding fists, more than double life and more dps and still having a hard time with several champions/rares. You sir must have really impressive skills then, kudos to you I guess.

Using Resolve as your third passive is probably the best choice, seeing how you're so concerned with mitigation. In addition Mantra of Conviction with Intimidation is another mini-Resolve. It reduces enemy damage flat-out in addition to increasing your own total final damage by 12% at least, 24% if you keep spamming the active bonus (which is easy to do).

It's not easy but its possible. I have changed up my build since then to, I've switched out 7 sided strike for blind. I think it works better.

Using a shield does make a huge difference. Not only the extra armor but having block aswell gives you a lot more mitigation.

I believe mantra of healing has been changed. The active now gives you a damage absorbing shield.

Re: Solo Inferno Monk Build + Explanation of Effective health and Damage mitigation

Good stuff to talk about but the stats in that video are somethign else. My monk has been progressing through act 2 inferno pretty cleanly, rarely die except against "stars aligned" champ mods. Here's my monk's build and stats (that I can roughly remember, server is down until 4 pm :/)

    1. FoL: Thunderclap (teleport+30% weap damage aoe)
    2. Cyclonse Strike: 30 spi cost rune
    3. Blind Flash: Faith in the Light (30% weap damage for 3 sec)
    4. Serenity: 4 sec duration rune
    5. Mantra of Evasion/Conviction: 20% armor or 24% passive damage bonus
    6. 7 Sided Strike: 100% weap damage aoe explosions

    1. thunderclap is great muli tasking skill
    2. same as above, many uses
    3. damage and defense in the same skill, gg. the other runes just aren't as effective as a boost in damage
    4. extra second is SOOOO worth it for defense and offense. extra sec to run outa poison or burn down a minion
    5. I float between evasion for progression (until I get better gear) and conviction for act 1 item/gold farming.
    6. The lower cd is nice, but the damage on the aoe explosion is RIDICULOUS. Cyclone strike everyone into a small group pop that and things just melt. Each hit aoes them all for 100% damage. For example 7 mobs, each hit with the normal attack 700% damage + aoe explosions form each hit = 4900% damage in 7 second. It's basically a 30ish sec cd earthquake that makes you invulnerable and chases people.Obviously that's ideal but it still works anything from 700/1400%-4900%. (I'm not 100% sure if single targets take damage form the hit and the secondary aoe explosion, that's the possible 1400% min)

For passives: 1. One with Everything 2. The dex=armor thing 3. Near Death Experience

My stats are about 700 unbuffed res, 1400 life regen, 5300 armor (with shield) and something like 43k hp. I'm currently testing life regen and love it. It's prediactable healing and I love predictability.basically for packs I rotate my cd's so i'm either preventing damage, doing damage, or healing damage.

td:lr - get a balanced gear/build and multitask to win

Re: Solo Inferno Monk Build + Explanation of Effective health and Damage mitigation

My math might be wrong on 7 sided strike.
7 mobs hit with normal attack=700% damage X 7explosions for 700% damage = 4900%? It could only be 6 mobs hit with explosions if the mob making the exploison doesn;t also get hti with it. But in either case, it pwns.

Gear is important but alot more relies on the monk's build and playstyle. The gear and build should work as a team in your mitigation journey. If your gear is lacking, bust out a skill that alleviates the problem. For example, your resists are low use mantra of healing: 20% bonus res. If your res are fine but armor is low use mantra of evasion: 20% armor+ passives. If your gear is fine but damage is low, mantra of conviction: overawe. If your damage is fine but you die quickly, look at using rotating cd's to prevent damage. Rotate blinding flash, serenity, 7 sided strike, and sanctuary or something like that. The monk's build should NEVER be sedentary.

So this build might be a little out of date now. However the basic mechanics are still valid.
