Every time you outgrow a good item, put it in your stash. You will be glad when you reroll and slowly build up twink items that will let you progres faster and more safely, and get back to where the fun begins. If an item can be easily replaced by another char, ditch it, if its actually good for its level, keep it. When your items become good enough, you can use a ruby in your helmet for extra exp, instead of a amethysts, for the levels that are safe to do so.
Especially if you are set on sticking to one char for a while. I play barbs and wizards.
Making more than one char, and playing both as main and alt, is also a good way to not feel like losing everything when you die. So your alt becomes your new main as you gather up the ressources to reroll the one that died. They can also farm items for each other. Tag team ftw.
Thanks for the tips.
I already started to keep my best items I can wear from lvl15+. This should save up a lot of gold I'd spend in the AH next time my wizard will die (well, not in the near future I hope so).
I'm also glad I rolled a wizard again, things seem far easier this time with him (maybe the past super-safe HC play experience kicks in), I'm already lvl30, and just got to act4 with 5,4k hp and 444 dps. I'm not sure about how good are these stats as I haven't played on act4 with him yet, except the Iskatu part in the beginning.
Also, for the +exp part: the massacre and other bonus experience points can really boost up the leveling with the wizard as he can take down a lot of enemies really quickly. I wonder how much a ruby in the head would add. I'll try it tomorrow
I added a square ruby to my helm, wouldn't be without it now.
Best thing about HC is that the glass cannon builds don't work (well not more than once!) so there's a bit of satisfaction when taking down tough enemies as you only get the one chance at all.
Briefly considered SC after my DH1 died but could bear to drop down.
